Job Description
Well known publishing and entertainment company is seeking a contract Digital Media Designer. This is a fully remote opportunity that will occur over the span of a 2-year time period. Work will come on an ad-hoc basis with at least a 30-day notice of when the project will begin.
The ideal candidate has experience transforming illustrated print books into high-quality, visually engaging ebook experiences. You bring strong digital design sensibilities, expertise in epub standards, mastery of layout tools, and the ability to preserve the storytelling and visual hierarchy of richly illustrated print materials. This position is fully remote, highly collaborative, and involves producing polished ebooks across multiple formats.
MUST HAVE:
-Bachelors Degree or Equivalent design experience (2+ years)
-Proven experience in designing and producing ebooks from print files
-Strong knowledge of ePub standards, including fixed-layout vs. reflowable formats
-Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and ebook export workflows
-Experience optimizing illustrations and images for digital use
-Familiarity with Kindle Previewer, Apple Books, and similar validation tools
-Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
-Strong visual design sensibility
-Ability to balance creative intentions with technical constraints
-Highly organized, efficient, and deadline-driven
-Comfortable working independently while managing multiple titles
-Clear communicator who collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams
NICE TO HAVE:
-Experience with children's books, cookbooks, photography books, or other highly illustrated print titles
-Background in digital or print publishing (e.g., magazines, books, layout-focused design)
-Experience with major publishers (e.g., Random House, Sterling, Hachette) is highly valued
-5+ years of digital publishing experience is a plus

-Convert print books to ebooks, ensuring visual fidelity and narrative flow
-Adapt illustrated layouts (photos, graphics, typography) for digital formats
-Optimize images and assets for platform requirements and performance
-Format and export ebooks across fixed layout and reflowable formats
-Validate and test files using Kindle, Apple Books, and other QA tools
-Troubleshoot layout and technical issues across devices and platforms
-Ensure quality and consistency through thorough review and device testing
-Collaborate with a small cross functional team to meet project timelines
-Manage multiple titles, maintaining organization and deadline accuracy
