Power Systems Engineer, Advanced Analytics

Current Opportunity: EPG is seeking a Power Systems Engineer for full-time employment. This role focuses on advanced analytics software solutions to solve real power-grid problems. EPG develops advanced software applications for the electric power industry that are widely used for real-time operations. EPG’s solutions utilize power system knowledge base, data analytics, high performance computing, machine learning and advanced analytics for solving industry problems such as oscillation monitoring, detection, and source location; wide area situational awareness; integration of renewables; managing and monitoring inverter based renewable resources (IBR); data center monitoring; mission critical control center operations; model validation; event detection and root cause assessments; and advanced platforms for linear state estimation, contingency analysis, WAMS and WAMPAC.

Job Responsibilities:
This engineering position plays an integral role in our Power Systems Engineering team in ensuring that our software solutions are useful to our utility and grid operator customers. This is a dynamic role with exposure to key stakeholders across the organization. This individual will be responsible for:
· Advanced Analytics and Automation: Work on developing new solutions or enhance existing algorithms for real-world problems in domains such as oscillation and modal analysis, inertia monitoring/forecasting, model validation, event detection, dynamic alarming, as well as automated scripting of the software (e.g., PSSE or PSCAD).
· Engineering Software Testing: Execute tests to identify engineering algorithm inconsistencies.
· Root Cause Assessment: Investigate results to determine root cause and make engineering recommendations for improvement.

· Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, software development and Testing team members to discuss issues and ensure resolution in a timely manner based on root cause assessment and recommendations.
· Documentation: Maintain engineering design and testing documentation.
· Presentations: Prepare and provide briefings to management and other key stakeholders.
Key Skills
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
· Flexibility to work on new and varied problems
· Strong knowledge of power flow simulations, small signal stability and dynamics, contingency analysis, and event analysis
· Experience in both RMS domain and EMT simulation tools such as PSSE, PSLF, Power World, TSAT, PSCAD, EMTP, MATLAB
· Proficiency in python, C++, or C# programming languages
· Experienced in data-driven analytics, signal processing applications or AI/ML algorithms
· Good communication and collaboration skills
· Ability to present technical work and explain complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems or a related technical field
• Power Systems Engineering background and knowledge
• Onsite position based in Pasadena, California (remote candidates will not be considered for this position)
Nice to Haves:
• Experience in WAMS technology, inertia monitoring, ML-based forecasting, oscillation detection and localization, system identification, EMS applications, or advanced statistical signal processing analytics
• Experience in software development, including building prototype models, support data visualizations and real-time dashboards
