Job Description


First Point Group have multiple full-time permanent opportunities for Database Administrators (SQL | SSMS | AWS) with 4 to 8 years of career experience. The successful candidate must have strong SQL Server expertise (patching, upgrades, migration), supporting production systems, database performance tuning and exposure to AWS cloud infrastructure.

This is a 100% remote-work, full-time permanent employment opportunity with ocassional business travel on offer.

The Opportunity:

Our client is a global technology provider supporting large-scale communications services for mobile operators and their partners worldwide. Their platforms enable voice, messaging, and application-based services, helping customers scale operations, optimise wholesale workflows, and unlock new revenue opportunities through automation and intelligent decision-making.


As a Database Engineer, you will support mission-critical applications and databases in a live production environment. You’ll take ownership of complex support tickets that require deep technical expertise across SQL Server, database performance tuning, cloud infrastructure (AWS), patching, upgrades, and migrations.


This role combines hands-on technical problem solving with customer-facing communication, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently while keeping stakeholders informed.


Key Responsibilities:


Database Administration, Maintenance & Performance Tuning

  • Configure and manage Microsoft SQL Server databases using SSMS, ensuring high availability, security, and performance
  • Perform routine and proactive database maintenance, including log management, index rebuilding, and health monitoring
  • Implement best practices for backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning, including regular DR testing
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, improve monitoring, and implement long-term stability improvements


Patch Management & Upgrades

  • Analyse, plan, and execute application patches and system upgrades with minimal downtime
  • Take end-to-end ownership of patching activities across non-production and production environments
  • Collaborate with customers and internal engineering teams to plan and deliver upgrade rollouts
  • Troubleshoot patch failures, third-party upgrade issues, and post-upgrade performance problems
  • Document resolutions and recurring issues to support continuous improvement


Migrations & Data Refresh

  • Plan and execute data refreshes between environments (UAT, Staging, Production)
  • Perform database migrations across on-premises, cloud (AWS, Azure), and hybrid environments
  • Provision and manage AWS-hosted database infrastructure, including EC2, EBS, and backup/restore processes
  • Optimise cloud resources through performance tuning, scaling, and cost-aware utilisation


Technical Support & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead customer communication during incidents, providing clear and regular updates
  • Work closely with internal teams such as Engineering, R&D, and Pre-Sales to resolve issues
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot SQL Server, Windows, and database performance problems, including query optimisation, blocking, deadlocks, and bottlenecks


What Makes You Eligible

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience in technical support, engineering support, or database administration
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, SQL, and SSMS
  • Proven experience supporting production systems and resolving complex incidents


Advantageous Experience

  • Customer-facing support experience in a global or enterprise environment
  • Experience with patch management, software upgrades, and database migrations
  • Hands-on AWS experience (EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, backup and recovery strategies)
  • Exposure to tools such as MicroStrategy, Python, and Docker
