  • Visa Status: We welcome candidates on F-1/OPT or J-1 status studying at US universities.

About the Role

Design at Votely isn't about making things pretty; it's about making civic engagement feel effortless. As a Product Designer Intern, you'll design core user flows, run lightweight research, and ship real features that tens of thousands of users will interact with. You'll work closely with engineering and product to turn complex civic concepts into intuitive experiences. We're looking for someone who can balance craft with speed and isn't afraid to ship imperfect work and iterate.

What You'll Do
  • Design key user flows from landing page to quiz to results to action.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs in Figma.
  • Improve clarity and completion rates through information design and interaction design.
  • Design new features for our Action Hub (discovery, filtering, action details, progress tracking).
  • Contribute to and help maintain our design system (components, patterns, tokens).
  • Run lightweight user research (interviews, usability tests) and synthesize insights.
Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Design, HCI, or a related field (or equivalent self-taught experience).
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating product thinking and interaction design skills.
  • Proficiency in Figma (components, auto-layout, prototyping).
  • Ability to articulate design decisions and give/receive feedback constructively.
  • Understanding of accessibility principles and inclusive design.
  • Available for 10-12 weeks, 40 hours/week.
Nice to Have
  • Experience designing for mobile-first or responsive web experiences.
  • Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and how designs translate to code.
  • Experience with motion design or micro-interactions.
  • Background in user research methods.
Career Switchers Welcome

Some of the best designers we've met came from unexpected backgrounds: architecture, psychology, fine arts, even engineering. If you have a strong portfolio and can demonstrate user-centered thinking, your degree doesn't matter.
