Job Description
We are looking for a Technical Senior Product Manager (Fintech) based in Germany (100% remote work) to join Hellgate during a pivotal growth phase.
This role drives the design, ownership, and evolution of highly technical, backend-heavy, API-first Fintech products at the intersection of payments, banking infrastructure, and regulatory constraints, with success measured by product design quality and value creation rather than UI delivery and process management.
Reporting to the founder responsible for Product & Technology and collaborating closely with the CTO and Engineering Team, this first dedicated product role at Hellgate offers the chance to shape the product practice and has the potential to evolve into a broader product leadership role.
Your role in our universe 🪐
- Design technically complex products at the system and interface level, including APIs, data models, contracts, and behavior under edge cases and failure scenarios.
- Depending on experience, own one or two cloud services end-to-end, defining product vision, positioning, and roadmap with a clear link to revenue generation or be fully responsibility for product strategy and technical product design.
- Deeply understand and apply relevant payment standards and protocols, including flows, security implications, regulatory constraints, and integration complexity in a composable architecture.
- Design products that integrate with external ecosystems, including payment providers, banks, card schemes, and third-party platforms, aligned with compliance, security, and audit requirements.
- Proactively shape and evolve the roadmap, making explicit trade-offs between feature richness and simplicity, speed and correctness as well as customization and standardization.
- Act as a strong counterpart in technical product discussions, contributing to architecture and design discussions where product decisions affect system shape or API contracts.
- Collaborate as an equal partner closely with the founders, CTO, and the Engineering Team - a small, senior, and highly autonomous squad - prioritizing together long-term thinking over short-term delivery.
- Communicate product intent, behavior, and constraints clearly and precisely to clients and integration partners as well as internal and external developers.
- Maintain high-quality product documentation, treating it as a first-class product artifact rather than an afterthought.

Your star qualities 💫
- Extensive experience and demonstrated expertise as Technical/Senior/Principal Product Manager (or equivalent) or as product-minded Senior Engineer or Solution Architect, eager to transition into a product role.
- Deep technical product experience with proven ability to design API-driven, backend-heavy products and to read, reason about, and discuss API specifications and system behavior.
- Solid understanding of web technologies (HTTP, REST, webhooks, auth flows) and experience with API lifecycle management and versioning.
- Strong understanding of payments, banking, or financial infrastructure and familiarity with payment protocols, standards, and integration patterns.
- Product Design Thinking in systems, interfaces, and contracts — not screens.
- Strong analytical rigor and proficient in handling complexity and edge cases.
- Demonstrating engineering empathy by respecting technical constraints and prioritizing long-term system health.
- Collaborative team player who excels operating autonomously without heavy process or supervision and fully remotely in English (B2+).
