Senior Network Engineer
Hybrid- 3 days onsite per week (Knoxville, TN area)
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, and support enterprise-scale network infrastructure. This role requires very strong Cisco routing and switching expertise along with deep Palo Alto firewall experience, supporting secure, highly available enterprise environments.
This is a direct-hire, hybrid role offering a full company benefits package, with relocation assistance available for qualified candidates. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Knoxville, TN area upon accepting an offer.

About the Role
This position is part of a centralized Network Engineering team within a large enterprise technology environment. The Senior Network Engineer will partner closely with infrastructure engineering teams, information security, project and portfolio management, facilities, and external vendors to plan, design, implement, and operate critical network services that support business operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage LAN, WAN, wireless, and cloud-based network solutions
- Configure, maintain, and optimize Cisco routers and switches and Palo Alto firewalls to ensure reliability, performance, and security
- Monitor network health, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement proactive measures to reduce downtime
- Lead network initiatives including upgrades, migrations, and integration of new technologies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business needs and ensure secure, reliable connectivity
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
- Create and maintain network documentation, standards, and operational best practices
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in network engineering roles
- CCNP certification or equivalent hands-on Cisco experience (required)
- PCNSE certification or equivalent hands-on Palo Alto experience (required)
- Expert-level understanding of the OSI model, subnetting, TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and QoS
- Strong background in Cisco enterprise routing and switching technologies
- Advanced knowledge of next-generation firewalls, with Palo Alto strongly preferred
- Experience with VPN technologies and remote access solutions
- Hands-on experience with cloud networking and hybrid connectivity (Azure and/or AWS preferred)
- Experience with SD-WAN solutions (Meraki and/or Palo Alto preferred)
- Deep understanding of network security protocols including 802.1X, RADIUS, TACACS+, and SSL/TLS
- Advanced troubleshooting skills using packet analyzers and network monitoring tools
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to lead through high-impact issues and implement long-term, scalable solutions
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team

Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud certifications, with a preference for Azure (AZ-305, AZ-700)
- Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, and/or Bash
- Familiarity with network automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and/or Ansible (Bicep a plus)
- Experience designing and enforcing network access control using 802.1X, RADIUS, TACACS+, and Cisco ISE
- Familiarity with VXLAN and Cisco Nexus Dashboard in multi-site environments
- Experience with private cloud connectivity solutions such as Azure ExpressRoute and/or AWS Direct Connect
