About The Position
The Lead Level Designer leads the level design discipline pod, owning the quality, scalability, and consistency of level layouts, gameplay flow, and player experience across multiple projects. This role combines hands-on level design leadership with mentorship, review, and client collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a pod of level designers, fostering creativity and technical proficiency.
- Define level design standards, workflows, and best practices to ensure engaging and polished gameplay environments.
- Review level layouts, pacing, gameplay integration, and documentation for consistency and quality.
- Ensure levels are scalable, balanced, production-friendly, and aligned with overall game vision and technical constraints.
- Clearly communicate design intent, gameplay challenges, and trade-offs to internal teams and clients.
- Support project planning and risk mitigation related to level design milestones and delivery.
- Oversee the design of core gameplay loops, narrative integration, and player progression within levels to enhance long-term engagement.
- Develop key level designs that meet gameplay goals, complete detailed documentation, and coordinate cross-department efforts for smooth implementation.
- Collaborate actively with producers, designers, programmers, artists, QA, and clients to ensure timely and high-quality level delivery.

- Proven experience leading or mentoring level designers in a professional game development environment.
- Strong understanding of level design principles, player experience, pacing, and spatial storytelling across various game genres.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and documentation skills to maintain clarity and consistency.
- Ability to balance creative design with production realities and client feedback.
- Proficiency with industry-standard level design and prototyping tools.
- Familiarity with collaborative software and handoff tools used in game development pipelines.
- Experience working in co-development or multi-project environments is a plus.
