Job Description
I. POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled and forward‑thinking Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize our Microsoft SQL Server database environment. This role is responsible for ensuring database availability, reliability, performance, and security while also maintaining and enhancing SSIS-based ETL processes that support business-critical data workflows.
Beyond day-to-day maintenance, this position plays a key role in modernizing our data infrastructure, improving automation, streamlining ETL processes, and supporting long‑term data platform strategy.
II. POSITION EXPECTATIONS
Database Administration
· Administer, monitor, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases running on AWS EC2 or related AWS infrastructure.
· Monitor performance and troubleshoot SQL Server incidents, slow queries, resource bottlenecks, and job failures.
· Implement best practices for security, access management, and auditing.
Disaster Recovery
· Maintain, develop, and routinely test disaster recovery and business continuity plans for SQL Server environments.
· Ensure reliable and timely database backups and restores
ETL & SSIS Responsibilities
· Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance SSIS packages that support business ETL workflows.
· Manage SQL Agent jobs connected to ETL and reporting processes.
· Identify opportunities to streamline or automate ETL tasks and data flows.
· Work closely with application and reporting teams to ensure data accuracy and availability.
Cloud & Infrastructure
· Support and enhance SQL Server deployments in AWS (EC2, networking, storage, monitoring, etc.).
· Collaborate with infrastructure teams to improve scalability, cost efficiency, and system resilience.

· Evaluate opportunities to modernize workloads (e.g., S3-based pipelines, managed SQL, cloud automation).
Modernization & Process Improvement
· Participate in roadmap planning to modernize legacy database/ETL systems.
· Explore adoption of modern data tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory‑style pipelines, AWS-native ETL, containerization, serverless components).
· Recommend and implement improvements in database design, indexing strategy, and overall architecture.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education, Certifications and /or Licenses:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Required Qualifications
· 3–5+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases.
· Hands‑on experience managing SQL Server in AWS environments.
· Strong T‑SQL skills, including performance tuning and query optimization.
· Experience maintaining and troubleshooting SSIS packages and SQL Server Agent jobs.
· Solid knowledge of database security, backup/restore strategies, and DR concepts.
· Experience with PowerShell, Python, or other automation tools.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience modernizing SQL environments or migrating legacy workloads.
· Familiarity with AWS data services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Glue, RDS, IAM).

Knowledge/Skills:

V. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position can be hybrid or fully remote, depending on business needs and candidate location. Occasional after-hours work may be required to monitor or troubleshoot critical file transfers. Collaboration will take place via online communication tools, and remote employees must maintain a reliable internet connection and a dedicated workspace.
