12-Month Contract | Part-Time, 20 hours per week | Fully Remote
We’re looking for a highly specialized Biomedical Knowledge Systems Engineer to support and modernize a scientific knowledge discovery platform that brings together clinical, regulatory, and biomedical data.
This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys owning complex systems end-to-end, is comfortable working with legacy platforms, and has hands-on experience applying GenAI and NLP to real-world biomedical or regulatory data in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain a custom semantic scientific search platform, including troubleshooting, refactoring, and system improvements
- Support and administer legacy biomedical informatics systems and complex data workflows
- Lead document and vector database migrations (including MarkLogic to MongoDB) while preserving data integrity and auditability
- Build and enhance GenAI-driven solutions for semantic search, knowledge extraction, and data synthesis
- Support regulatory analytics initiatives, including transforming clinical trial data into submission-ready formats
- Advise on system architecture, performance optimization, and secure deployment in cloud or hybrid environments

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field
- 3+ years of hands-on software development experience in biomedical, life sciences, or other regulated environments
- Strong, hands-on experience with both MarkLogic and MongoDB, including complex migration work
- Experience using AWS services such as EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, and Secrets Manager
- Experience working with clinical trial and regulatory data sources (e.g., FDA, AACT, clinicaltrials.gov)
- Familiarity with biomedical literature and data sources such as PubMed, PMC, or Gene Expression Omnibus
- Production-level experience applying NLP, GenAI, or LLM-based workflows to biomedical or scientific data
- Full-stack development experience, including modern frontend frameworks (Vue.js or similar), backend APIs, and cloud-native architectures
