Lead Product Manager - R&D Master and Reference Data Management
We are looking for a Lead Product Manager to join a Drug Innovation Team!
As the Lead Product Manager for Pharma R&D Master and Reference Data Management within the Data and AI platform, and as part of the Master & Reference Data Community, you will participate in defining the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for R&D Master and Reference Data solutions. You will manage the product backlog and guide a cross-functional team of data engineers and domain experts to ensure successful product delivery that aligns with business objectives and enhances overall company performance.
In this role, you will engage and align with Business Process Owners and Data Owners in the respective business functions to ensure the development of fit-for-purpose data products and compliant data management, including access to and sharing of data. Collaborating closely with key stakeholders, you will drive Bayer’s digital transformation and reinforce its position as a leader in digital innovation.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product Strategy:
- Contribute to defining the strategic direction and take full ownership of assigned products throughout their lifecycle, aligning with a shared vision and strategy.
- Define with the team the product vision and roadmap, outlining a clear path to solutions.
- In collaboration with R&D Strategy and Pharma IT stakeholders, identify solutions and define the product vision and roadmap, outlining a clear path to solutions.
- Ensure the master and reference data product strategy is in sync with Pharma IT and R&D Data Strategy.
- Articulate the impact of activities and digital solutions to (senior) stakeholders, demonstrating business value and outcomes through compelling narratives.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators to assess product performance and its contribution to business objectives.
- Lead the success of products from conception, implementation, operation, to decommissioning, identifying needs and developing validated product concepts.
- Ensure the availability, stability, and compliance of products throughout all phases, including development, deployment, delivery, and operations.
- Implement agile methodologies to improve delivery efficiency, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and user story collaboration with acceptance criteria and incrementally introduce sensible default practices.
- Work with the team and stakeholders to identify needs, prioritize the product backlog, and develop compelling use cases.
- Manage the collection user requirements and non-functional needs to ensure the product meets user expectations.
- Drive the prioritization process by engaging with subject matter experts and team members to gather input, synthesize insights, and lead the team to make informed decisions, maximizing business value and minimizing time to delivery.
- Identify and actively manage dependencies with interconnected workstreams
- Oversee funding, cost control, and budget tracking while managing cross-dependencies.

- Engage with key stakeholders and product users to gain buy-in and manage expectations, ensuring products meet user needs and deliver value.
- Provide insights to help the team make informed decisions based on customer and business data.
- Mentor and guide the team to achieve quarterly outcomes efficiently.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning and integration among teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of product management experience in IT and/or related Data oriented environment
- 5+ years of experience with Agile development and DevOps.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives from initiation to delivery through influence.
- Experience with Design Thinking, user-centered design, and user analysis.
- Strong analytical, management, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated skills in organizational change management, enabling effective transitions and adoption of new data solutions across teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in building product vision, strategy, and competitive analysis.
- Proven track record in designing, developing, and delivering digital solutions in a complex global environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate the business value of proposals and deliverables. You have several years of experience with building and operating data platforms
- Experience in GxP, data modeling, and architectural design would be a plus.
- Experience in Master and Reference Data Management, along with an understanding of data governance and quality principles, is also desirable.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken. German is a plus but not mandatory
