The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist specializing in Machine Learning for Imaging Physics to develop , implement, and validate advanced computational methods for cancer research. This role focuses on leveraging imaging data and high-dimensional biomedical datasets to advance clinical and translational research.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record in machine learning, data science, and computational research and thrives in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Learning & AI Development
- Develop, implement, and optimize cutting edge machine learning algorithms for biomedical and cancer imaging research.
- Apply supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning methods, as well as deep learning architectures (CNNs, RNNs, transformers).
- Utilize explainable AI (XAI), model interpretability, and bias mitigation frameworks in clinical decision support applications.
- Work with programming languages and ML tools including Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit learn, and related frameworks.
- Build scalable, reproducible ML pipelines and research software tools in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI).
- Write clean, well documented, and collaborative code supporting long-term research goals.
- Manage, analyze, and integrate large, high dimensional datasets including imaging, genomic, and proteomic data.
- Conduct data preprocessing, feature engineering, dimensionality reduction, and multi omics data integration.
- Perform statistical analyses and use bioinformatics methods to extract insights from complex datasets.
- Lead or contribute to innovative research projects resulting in publications, conference presentations, and/or intellectual property.
- Identify and incorporate emerging machine learning trends into ongoing and future research.
- Demonstrate strong analytical reasoning and creative problem solving in designing research solutions.

- Work collaboratively within a multi disciplinary team of biologists, clinicians, physicists, and data scientists.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders.
- Mentor graduate students, postdocs, and junior scientists in machine learning and computation.
- Assist with project planning, documentation, and research related administrative tasks.

EDUCATION
- Required: Master's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
- Preferred: PhD Natural sciences. or
- Medical Degree
