Job Description

Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS)

Remote anywhere in Australia

$120,000 to $140,000 base plus super

UCentric are working with a fast growing AWS Partner that’s scaling rapidly off the back of strong demand from startup, scale up and SaaS clients across Australia.

This is a remote first role, open to candidates based anywhere in Australia. There will be occasional travel to Sydney for AWS training, partner events and team catch ups, but day to day you’ll be trusted to work autonomously.

This business operates at the intersection of delivery, consulting and modern cloud engineering. They are not an enterprise bureaucracy and not a body shop. The focus is pragmatic AWS work that delivers outcomes for product led, fast moving businesses.

Why this role is interesting

You’ll work across multiple startup and SaaS environments at different stages of maturity. One client may be pre seed and focused on speed to market, while another is scaling quickly and needs to stabilise platforms, optimise cost or improve security.

Because of this, context switching is a core capability in this role. You’ll move between problem spaces regularly and will need to stay effective without losing quality or momentum.

If you enjoy variety, ownership and being trusted to make judgement calls rather than following rigid playbooks, this role will suit you well.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing, building and improving AWS infrastructure for startup and SaaS clients
  • Working hands on with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, containers, networking and security
  • Partnering directly with founders, CTOs and engineering leaders to understand what matters now
  • Making practical trade offs between speed, cost, reliability and scale
  • Helping clients move from good enough today to ready for the next stage
  • Running multiple engagements at once without dropping standards
  • This is a hands on, client facing role where ownership and follow through matter.

The type of background that fits well

This role suits engineers who have experience either working inside startups or SaaS companies, or consulting to startups, scale ups or product led businesses.

You don’t need a startup only background, but you do need to be comfortable with ambiguity, incomplete information and shifting priorities. Enterprise only environments tend not to translate well unless you’ve also operated in lean, fast moving teams.

What the client is looking for

  • Recent hands on AWS experience within the last 12 to 24 months
  • Strong infrastructure as code experience using Terraform and or CDK
  • CI/CD pipeline design and ownership
  • Solid understanding of AWS networking, IAM and security fundamentals
  • Confidence diagnosing and resolving real production issues

Behaviours that matter

  • Comfortable making decisions without perfect information
  • Able to explain technical trade offs to non technical stakeholders
  • Naturally organised when juggling multiple clients or workstreams
  • Pragmatic and avoids over engineering
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Ability to mentor more junior engineers

Location and flexibility

  • Remote first role anywhere in Australia
  • Occasional travel to Sydney for AWS training and partner events
  • Full time permanent position as part of a global team

Salary

$120,000 to $140,000 base plus super, depending on experience

If you enjoy autonomy, variety and working with modern SaaS businesses, this is well worth a conversation. I’m happy to walk you through the client, team structure and what success looks like in the first six to twelve months.
