Role: Network Engineer
Location: Fully Remote

Position Description
The Network Engineer is responsible for deploying, implementing, and migrating Layer 2 and Layer 3 network elements across multiple OEM vendor platforms for customers in telecom, public sector, and private sector environments.
This role requires a subject-matter expert capable of supporting onsite and remote implementation, commissioning, and migration of data networks, as well as augmentation of existing networks. Vendor experience in Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, and/or Ciena routing solutions is essential. Professional OEM certifications (e.g., JNCIP, CCIE, Nokia SRA, Ciena CRS) are highly desirable.
The team focuses on designing, building, and operating intelligent, global network infrastructure with high availability, scalability, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret technical product documentation, bulletins, release notes, and related publications.
- Execute methods of procedures (MOPs) to provision, commission, and test network equipment.
- Discover and analyze existing networks, topologies, configurations, and technologies to develop migration plans, procedures, and activation scripts.
- Develop device-specific configuration scripts for network activation and testing.
- Lead field teams during network migrations, field testing, and protocol testing in alignment with network design.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders; assist technicians with troubleshooting and technical knowledge sharing.
- Resolve complex network issues and collaborate with customers.
- Follow documented processes for network upgrades, implementations, and decommissioning.
- Perform maintenance window activities for high-risk migrations, including routed ring migrations and point-to-point circuit transitions.
- Provide system integration support to teams and customers integrating with network applications and systems.
- Collaborate to drive process improvements and operational excellence.

Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience with deep understanding of OSI Layer 3 protocols and network migration.
- Working knowledge of Layer 1 and 2 technologies such as long-haul DWDM transport, MPLS, fixed fiber access, and metro Ethernet services.
- Experience with network planning, architecture design, detailed design, configuration scripting, and MOP creation.
- Expert-level understanding of:
- 8031, 8032
- SONET
- MPLS
- EVPL
- TCP/IP
- IPv6
- BGP, OSPF, ISIS
- Familiarity with optical layers, transponders, and large optical environments.
- Expertise in provisioning/commissioning of vendor equipment such as:
- Juniper: QFX, MX480, MX960
- Cisco: 1K, 540, 5501, 55A1, 9K
- Nokia: 7250 IXRS/IXRE, 7750 SR, 7705 SAR-8/12
- Ciena: 5164
- Preferred familiarity with Nokia NRS.
- Knowledge of systems including Fuse, CND, NSP, SEV1, SANE, TWAMP, BRIX (preferred but not required).
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent judgment, multitasking ability, and deadline management under pressure.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physical requirements: ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 65 lbs, and work on ladders up to 8 ft.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of optical transport, OTN solutions, system design, service delivery, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
