Job Description

Senior UAV Software Engineer

UAV Manufacturer

Oslo, Norway (Hybrid)

Airbotics Talent are supporting a growing UAV manufacturer and service provider operating at the cutting edge of long range unmanned aviation. The business is running real commercial UAV operations today and is now strengthening its core engineering team as it scales its autonomous flight capability and fleet reliability.

This is a full-time role based in Oslo. Candidates should be based locally or open to relocation.

The Role

As Senior UAV Software Engineer, you will work across the software stack that enables safe, reliable autonomous flight at scale. This is a deeply hands on role spanning embedded flight software, onboard systems and supporting tools used in live operations.

You will be trusted with ownership in critical areas of the UAV software environment, contributing directly to flight performance, robustness and operational uptime. This is not a narrow backend or simulation-only position. Your work will regularly touch real aircraft in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve flight-critical software for autonomous UAV platforms operating beyond visual line of sight
  • Work directly with real-time embedded systems powering flight control and mission execution
  • Extend and maintain ground control and operator tooling used during live operations
  • Build onboard applications supporting telemetry, video, communications and mission logic
  • Diagnose and resolve issues that span software, firmware and hardware interactions
  • Create internal tools to improve engineering efficiency and operational insight
  • Participate in operational support rotations to ensure fleet reliability
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, operations and systems engineers in a small, high-ownership team

The Person

This role requires practical experience working on real UAV, robotics or autonomous systems. Candidates without hands-on exposure to deployed systems will unfortunately not be suitable.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Strong experience developing software for autonomous, robotic or aerial systems
  • High proficiency in C++ and Python within Linux or embedded environments
  • Experience working with real-time or safety-critical software
  • Comfort operating close to hardware, sensors and flight controllers
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues across multiple layers
  • A pragmatic mindset focused on reliability, clarity and maintainable code
  • Experience with PX4, MAVLink, ground control systems, or onboard Linux applications would be highly beneficial
  • Previous involvement in live operations or production autonomy is a strong advantage

Our client are looking to hire this role immediately, so if interested please submit your application with attached CV today for consideration!
