Job Description


The AmeriCorps Member with Design Corps and the SEED Network will play a key role in ongoing and emerging efforts to research, develop, demonstrate, and disseminate indigenous wisdom that can inform contemporary environmental stewardship and environmentally-conscious practices in the built environment. The AmeriCorps member will lead efforts related to the research, development, demonstration, and dissemination of indigenous wisdom that can inform contemporary environmental stewardship and environmentally-conscious public interest design practices in the built environment. The Member will conduct quarterly outreach with both project participants and project stakeholders. Project participants describe architecture and indigenous study students involved in coursework and collaborating faculty researchers that will be engaged in the duration of the quarterly initiative. Stakeholders (ongoing) include tribal community members, builders, designers. elected officials, university students, and the general public. Stakeholders will be invited to quarterly gatherings that promote dialogue around topics associated with indigenous wisdom and the built environment. Work will be primarily conducted at the Center for Public Interest Design at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. Site Supervisor is Sergio, Palleroni, Director of the Center for Public Interest Design.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will: - Research indigenous communities and reach out to current and potential partners, documented with texts and infographics. - Develop and execute a strategy for collecting knowledge with international partners around the intersection of indigenous approaches and public interest design. - Organize quarterly gatherings with stakeholders that promote dialogue around topics associated with indigenous wisdom and the built environment with local partners. This work will include the design of demonstration projects, as well as collecting community feedback. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent oral and written communication skills; Undergraduate degree or higher in Architecture or related fields; Familiarity with office software such as Adobe Suite; and ability to work well with others.
