Job Description
Client is seeking an experienced Windows Systems Administrator with deep expertise in virtualization platforms, specifically migrating environments from VMware to Microsoft Hyper V. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting virtualization migrations while maintaining the stability, security, and performance of Windows-based infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Hyper V, and enterprise migration projects.
Responsibilities
- Execute VMware to Hyper V migration initiatives, including assessment, planning, testing, and production cutover
- Administer and support Windows Server environments (2012 R2, 2016, 2019, and newer)
- Design, configure, and manage Hyper V hosts, clusters, and virtual machines
- Analyze existing VMware environments and recommend migration strategies, tools, and timelines
- Perform VM conversions, validation, and post-migration optimization
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to virtualization, performance, and availability
- Manage and support Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and core Windows services
- Coordinate with infrastructure, networking, storage, and security teams during migration efforts
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and migration procedures
- Ensure environments meet security, compliance, and operational best practices
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide Tier 2/3 support as needed

- 5+ years of experience as a Windows Systems Administrator in enterprise environments
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience migrating workloads from VMware vSphere to Microsoft Hyper V
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server architecture and administration
- Experience with Hyper V Manager, Failover Clustering, and System Center (SCVMM preferred)
- Solid understanding of virtualization concepts, storage, networking, and backup/recovery
- Experience with VM migration tools and techniques (cold migrations, re-platforming, rebuilds)
- Proficiency in PowerShell for administration and automation
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
