In this role, you will be fully hands-on designing, building, and optimizing cloud solutions in Microsoft Azure that are essential for ESA’s operations. You will tackle technical challenges in architecture, security, scalability, and performance, while ensuring that ESA researchers and engineers have access to secure and reliable data platforms.
About the client and location
The ESA Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Frascati, Italy. From this location ESA conducts most of their earth observation research, including data analysis and distribution for other non-ESA satellites.

Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Designing and managing robust, scalable, and secure Azure environments.
- Implementing complex Azure services (VMs, Storage, Networking, Data Factory, Synapse, Spark).
- Configuring and managing Entra ID and External ID (users, groups, Conditional Access, RBAC).
- Automating the infrastructure with PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep, JSON, and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps).
- Optimizing the governance, security, monitoring, and cost efficiency.
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in high-demand production environments.
- Developing Proof of Concepts and pilots to test and adopt new technologies.
- Collaborating closely with ESA teams, researchers, and international stakeholders.

Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience with Azure in complex enterprise environments.
- Strong expertise in cloud architecture, networking, security, and automation.
- Proven experience in enterprise-scale implementations and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with frameworks and best practices (Landing Zones, CAF, ITIL).
- You thrive in complex environments where you translate challenges into structured solutions.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
