Senior Python/AWS Developer (AWS, Smart Grid, Water/Gas Utility) - 100% Remote - W2 Contract
Optomi, in partnership with a leading electric power and gas distribution company, is seeking a Senior Python/AWS Developer to fulfill a long-term, multi-year contract with a client based in the Carolinas.
The ideal candidate will have a deep expertise in Python and AWS cloud-native development to join our team focused on transforming the utilities sector. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and enhancing distributed energy management and smart grid platforms that support solar site operations. This position is ideal for a hands-on Engineer who thrives in complex system environments and can lead technical initiatives within a collaborative, cross-functional team.

Apply Today If Your Background Includes:
- 7+ years of backend software engineering experience, with significant experience in Python
- Strong expertise in building serverless or containerized microservices using AWS Lambda and other core AWS services
- Experience designing data processing and transformation pipelines using AWS Glue, EMR, or custom Python solutions
- Deep understanding of AWS ecosystem including S3, DynamoDB, Redshift, Lambda, and Kinesis
- Hands-on experience with real-time data processing using Kinesis and/or Kafka
- Proficiency in Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools for cloud resource management
- Ability to lead and mentor engineering teams effectively
- Industry experience in the utilities or energy sector strongly preferred
- Familiarity with meter data management, SCADA systems, PI System, and sensor integration in utility environments (preferred)
- Experience working with or integrating platforms from EPRI, GE Vernova, Schneider Electric, Siemens, or similar utility tech companies (preferred)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders (preferred)

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems and cloud-native services using Python and AWS Lambda
- Build and optimize scalable workflows leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Glue, and Redshift
- Lead efforts to ensure backend systems are resilient, performant, and secure across distributed architectures
- Collaborate with product managers, analysts, and domain experts to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Mentor junior developers and drive adoption of engineering best practices
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives using Terraform to support deployment and configuration of backend systems
- Provide domain leadership in areas such as distributed energy resource management, meter data processing, and integration with operational systems like SCADA and PI
