Job Description
Position: Mechanical Engineer – Product Development – Founding Team
Location: Detroit, Michigan
Company: Asterisk Green Inc. -
A sustainability-focused engineering startup developing intelligent hardware systems for building efficiency and performance.
Position Overview : Asterisk Green Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support early-stage development of an intelligent hardware system. The role focuses on hands-on mechanical design, prototyping, and testing, and is well suited for candidates interested in applied R&D and real-world deployment of physical systems. While initially focused on a primary product initiative, responsibilities may evolve over time, and the engineer may contribute to additional projects as the business demands. This is an early-stage startup role that requires comfort working in a fast-moving environment, taking initiative beyond a narrowly defined scope, and supporting cross-functional needs as required.
Responsibilities
• Design mechanical components and assemblies for a compact electromechanical system
• Develop CAD models, drawings, and documentation for prototyping and iteration
• Build and test prototypes using methods such as 3D printing, CNC machining, and sheet-metal fabrication
• Support testing related to airflow, thermal behavior, noise, reliability, and installation usability
• Collaborate with electrical, electronics and software contributors on system integration
• Mentor and support university-based engineering projects, including senior design or sponsored research efforts
• Contribute to grant applications, investment materials, and project documentation
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, materials, and thermos-fluids
• Experience with CAD and CAE tools (SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS, COMSOL, Autodesk CFD, MATLAB etc)
• Hands-on experience with physical prototyping and testing Strongly Preferred
• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline

Position: Electronics Design Engineer (Sensors & Embedded Hardware) – Founding team
Location: Detroit, Michigan
Company: Asterisk Green Inc.
- A sustainability-focused engineering startup developing intelligent hardware systems for built space efficiency and performance.
Position Overview : Asterisk Green Inc. is building a next-generation smart HVAC system that embeds intelligence directly into airflow hardware. We are seeking an Electronics Design Engineer to own sensor selection, circuit design, and early-stage hardware bring-up as we move from system architecture to working prototypes. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who has designed, built, and debugged real hardware—not just supported it. The role is well-suited for an engineer comfortable operating in an early-stage startup environment, taking initiative beyond a narrowly defined scope, and supporting cross-functional needs as required.
Responsibilities
• Electronics & Sensor Architecture
• Identify, evaluate, and down-select sensors (e.g. airflow, temperature, pressure, humidity)
• Define electronics architecture from sensor → MCU → power → communications
• Make tradeoffs across accuracy, power consumption, cost, and supply availability
• Circuit & PCB Design
• Design analog and digital circuits for sensor integration, signal conditioning, and power management • Own schematic capture and guide PCB layout (or review external layout work)
• Hand solder electronic components to facilitate rapid prototyping
• Ensure DFM/DFT considerations are built in from the start
• Prototyping & Bring-Up
• Lead board bring-up, debugging, and validation

• Script firmware (C/C++, Python) to test the boards
• Develop test plans to characterize sensor performance and system robustness
• Support rapid iteration cycles from bench prototype to enclosure-integrated hardware
• Suppliers & Manufacturing Interfaces
• Coordinate with sensor vendors, PCB fabrication/assembly partners, and component suppliers
• Support BOM optimization, second-sourcing, and early cost-down strategies
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with mechanical designers (airflow paths, enclosures)
• Collaborate with firmware/software contributors on interfaces and requirements
• Generate documentation supporting patents, grants, and early certifications Qualifications
• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
• 2+ years of hands-on electronics hardware development
Demonstrated experience with:
• Sensor integration and evaluation
• Analog and mixed-signal circuit design
• Low-power electronics
• PCB design and bring-up
• Comfortable owning hardware from concept → prototype → iteration
• C/C++ and Python programming
