AI Engineer

Location: Fully Remote (UK working hours)

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

About the Company

We’re partnering with a fast-growing AI-first biotech startup that has recently secured significant funding and is entering an exciting scale-up phase.

The company operates at the intersection of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and health, using advanced AI models to analyse large-scale biological and medical datasets. With a globally distributed team, they are building next-generation AI systems designed to transform how health and biological data is understood and applied.

This is a fully remote role, with collaboration aligned to UK working hours.

The Role

We’re looking for a Junior AI Engineer to join a growing technical team and contribute to the development of AI-driven platforms in a biotech and health-focused environment.

This role is hands-on and technical, offering exposure to large biological datasets, AI model development, and modern machine learning workflows, including work with LLMs and data-centric AI systems.

You’ll work closely with senior engineers, data scientists, and domain experts across biology and healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, clean, and maintain AI-ready datasets, working with large-scale biological and medical data
  • Support the development and optimisation of machine learning and LLM-based systems
  • Assist in designing and improving data pipelines for structured and unstructured biomedical data
  • Contribute to experimentation, testing, and validation of AI models
  • Document workflows, datasets, and technical decisions clearly and effectively

Required Background & Skills

  • Degree in a relevant STEM subject (e.g. Biomedical Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Medicine, Health Sciences, or a closely related field).
  • Strong interest in AI applied to biotech, healthcare, or medical data
  • Solid programming experience (e.g. Python)
  • Exposure to LLMs, NLP, or generative AI
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and data processing
  • Experience working with large datasets (academic, research, or commercial)
  • Comfortable working in a remote, collaborative environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with biological, clinical, or health-related datasets
  • Knowledge of ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms or data engineering tools

Why Apply?

  • Join a well-funded startup at an early growth stage
  • Work on cutting-edge AI-driven biotech products
  • Fully remote role with a global team
  • Competitive salary (£40–50k) with clear progression potential
