Job Description

Company Description

ITClinical specializes in providing innovative solutions for the health and pharmaceutical industries, with a focus on information technologies, technical translations, and scientific consultancy. Our portfolio includes advanced software for pharmacovigilance, clinical trial randomization, stock management, and Clinical Trial eCRF/EDC systems. With a multidisciplinary team of experts in IT, pharmaceuticals, medical fields, and language, we bridge the gap between life sciences, technology, and language services. Additionally, we offer monitoring and auditing services for clinical trials, particularly in Portugal, ensuring successful outcomes for our clients.

 Why This Role Matters

We are seeking an AI Specialist who will design, build, and deploy AI models and automated workflows for our clinical‑trial and pharmacovigilance platforms - and also champion AI adoption and innovation across the entire ITClinical organization. By driving new AI initiatives you will help us:

  • Optimise our team's workload by incorporating AI tools and workflows
  • Generate more qualified leads and enhance pre‑sale engagement
  • Expand our market reach and accelerate new product releases

 Role Overview

The AI Specialist will:

  • Be on the forefront of AI adoption: if you are excited about the innovation in AI, are on the forefront of the news but at the same time are pragmatic about adoption (results over fads), this is the job for you!
  • Design, build, and deploy AI models (e.g., embeddings, LLM prompt engines) and automated workflows that streamline platform processes.
  • Drive company‑wide AI initiatives by identifying high‑impact use cases, creating reusable AI modules, and guiding cross‑functional pilots.
  • Implement cutting‑edge AI trends such as:
  • OpenClaw / Agentic AI - autonomous reasoning and workflow orchestration
  • Low‑code / No‑code AI Platforms - enable product and sales teams to prototype AI features quickly.
  • Federated Learning - collaborative, privacy‑preserving model training across multiple sites.
  • Explainable AI (XAI) - provide regulatory‑ready insights for FDA, EMA, and ICH compliance.
  • AI‑driven Clinical Data Harmonization - standardize EHR, eCRF, and patient‑reported data.
  • ML‑Ops for Continuous Deployment - automate monitoring, retraining, and rollback of AI services.
  • Monitor, iterate, and document AI solutions to ensure high quality, compliance, and scalability.

 What You’ll Bring

  • AI/ML experience with proven deployments in business or clinical settings.
  • Strong technical stack: experience with modern programming languages (Python or similar), deep-learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar), and vector-store solutions (Pinecone, Weaviate or similar).
  • Experience with workflow automation (n8n, Zapier, Airflow) and API integration.
  • Knowledge of federated learning – ability to design and deploy privacy‑preserving models across distributed sites.
  • Problem‑solving mindset – translate business needs into scalable, production‑ready AI systems.
  • Excellent communication in English; Portuguese is a plus.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to OpenClaw or similar agentic AI frameworks and n8n.
  • Hands‑on experience with prompt engineering for conversational AI and chatbot development.
  • Familiarity with clinical research data standards (CDISC, ICH) and experience integrating AI with EDC/IWRS systems.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA) in data‑handling workflows.

 What We Offer

  • Fully remote work with flexible hours.
  • A friendly team spread across Portugal.
  • Must be located in Portugal (or willing to relocate).
  • Opportunity to shape the future of AI in clinical research.
