Software Engineer for AI/ML Applications

We are looking for passionate and space-enthusiastic Software Engineers for AI/ ML Applications to work at our Starion-premises in Darmstadt, Germany (on hybrid homeworking).

You will work on complex, high‑impact projects as a key software engineer, developing AI‑driven support systems for space applications, including ground segment data processing, operations preparation, and automated spacecraft monitoring and control.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

• Contributing to the design and development of AI‑based software systems.
• Supporting the implementation, configuration, and usage of AI/ML technology stacks.
• Performing a range of activities across the full lifecycle of future and operational programmes, supporting our clients in the following;

• Designing and developing backend‑focused software systems where AI components are integrated into core functionality.
• Developing AI prototypes to rapidly evaluate new ideas.
• Evolution and maintenance of operational support tools.
• Preparation of training dataset.
• Developing and maintaining data ingestion pipelines.
• Keeping up to date with the latest AI engineering developments.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

• University degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar domain.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering, including AI applications.
• Solid understanding of AI technology stacks.
• Software architecture design experience.
• Excellent use of Java and Python.
• REST interfaces implementation technologies experience.
• Proficient knowledge of CI/CD Pipelines.
• Solid understanding of software development processes.
• Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
• Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

• Proven track record in applying advanced AI techniques within agentic systems.
