Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will translate engineering concepts into detailed, technical, and accurate 3D models and 2D blueprints, specializing in progressive dies, transfer dies, and sheet metal components. You will work closely with tool & die makers and manufacturing engineers to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and optimized production processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Modeling: Develop detailed 2D and 3D designs for metal stamping tools, progressive dies, jigs, and fixtures using CREO and draftsight.

  • Drafting & Detailing: Create and modify complex die layouts, tool assemblies, and component drawings, ensuring adherence to strict geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • Manufacturability Focus: Ensure all designs are optimized for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and resource efficiency.
  • Engineering Change Orders (ECO): Process and document revisions to existing designs based on feedback from shop floor testing, die tryouts, or customer requests.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate CAD data, file structures, and part numbers within a Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
  • Material Selection: Analyze material property information to select appropriate materials for stamping components.
  • Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to the production team during the build and troubleshooting of dies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in CAD design, specifically within a metal stamping, tool & die, or sheet metal environment.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (CREO is highly preferred).
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of metal forming processes, die design, and materials.
  • GD&T Skills: Proficient in applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to detailed drawings.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and ability to produce high-precision work.
  • Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent technical certification in Drafting, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with simulation software to predict metal forming issues
  • Understanding of BOM (Bill of Materials) creation.
