Senior Database Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Database Engineer to support a company focused on enterprise‑level data management, system performance, and mission‑critical infrastructure optimization for federal defense programs. This position is on‑site in Quantico, VA. The Database Engineer will provide advanced engineering, capacity planning, and database performance support across complex systems. Responsibilities for the Database Engineer include:

• Perform database engineering and optimization (schema design, indexing, queries, performance tuning), along with server installation, integration, virtualization, and directory services security updates.
• Monitor and optimize database replication, design application networking (routing, LAN, IA), and oversee capacity/performance data storage.
• Utilize and integrate tools and technologies across SQL, Oracle, DBMS platforms, and Microsoft/Linux operating systems.
• Support service-level objective reporting, disaster recovery sizing, capacity audits, and workload sizing for new/existing applications.
• Support the Azure environment, and support tasks related to PowerBI, ACAS, and SharePoint

Required Qualifications for the Database Engineer include:

• 10+ years of experience with database engineering or related systems engineering work
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, RDBMS technologies (SQL/Oracle), Windows Server backend, virtualization tools, and operating system deployment/patching tools
• Skills in performance analysis, system integration, scripting (PowerShell), Azure, and PowerBI

Compensation for the Database Engineer includes:

• Salary Range: $110,000–$130,000 depending on experience
