Automation Test Engineer – High‑Growth, Technology‑Led Organisation

We are hiring an Automation Test Engineer to support high‑impact technology delivery across backend services, mobile applications and web platforms. This role suits someone analytical and curious, who can define meaningful test coverage by challenging requirements and understanding system behaviour. You will work across functional, automation and non‑functional testing to ensure systems behave correctly, integrate reliably and perform effectively in distributed environments.

About the Role

You will collaborate closely with developers, product teams and architects. The work spans backend Java services, messaging systems, APIs, mobile applications and web interfaces. You’ll design and execute test approaches, contribute to automation frameworks, validate system behaviour end‑to‑end and support quality throughout delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse tickets and changes to define clear, targeted test strategies.
• Challenge assumptions to ensure both functional and non‑functional aspects are covered.
• Design and execute manual and automated tests across backend, API, UI, web and mobile layers.
• Work collaboratively with developers to embed quality early in the lifecycle.
• Contribute to automation using tools such as Selenium, Appium, RestAssured and Playwright.
• Validate behaviour within distributed systems and messaging technologies (e.g. RabbitMQ).
• Document risks, defects and test outcomes clearly and concisely.
• Complete a full recruitment assessment day to demonstrate hands‑on technical capability.

Technical Skills and Experience

• Strong backend testing experience with an understanding of Java services.
• Experience with messaging and queuing technologies such as RabbitMQ.
• Mobile testing experience (Android/iOS) using Appium.
• UI and web testing experience with tools such as Selenium, RestAssured, Playwright.
• Ability to test APIs, integrations and full end‑to‑end flows.
• Nice to have: BrowserStack.
• Understanding of functional and non‑functional testing, including performance considerations.
• Analytical thinker able to explore edge cases and test beyond the obvious path.
• Ability to reason about system behaviour and performance impacts.
• Able to demonstrate genuine technical skill through practical exercises.
• Growth mindset with interest in ongoing upskilling opportunities.

Salary & Working Model

• Mid-Level: £45K
