Job Description
We are seeking a Technical Architect with deep Insurance industry experience to drive architecture strategy and technology modernization within a cloud-first, AI-enabled enterprise environment. This role is ideal for a highly skilled architect who can bridge legacy mainframe systems with modern cloud platforms, enabling scalable, secure, and intelligent solutions that support evolving business needs.
About the Role
The Technical Architect will collaborate closely with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Engineering teams, and Business stakeholders to design innovative solutions that integrate mainframe systems, cloud-native services, and AI-driven capabilities. This role will play a key part in modernizing legacy platforms, enabling digital transformation, and integrating AI technologies to improve operational efficiency and customer experience across insurance systems.
This is a 100% remote opportunity and will convert to full time after 6 months. Candidates who do not require sponsorship now are in the future will be considered for this position.
Responsibilities
Architecture & Solution Design
- Translate business and insurance domain requirements into scalable, secure, and high-performing technical architectures
- Design hybrid architectures integrating mainframe platforms with modern cloud-native systems
- Produce architecture diagrams, technical designs, and solution documentation
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and technology strategy
- Define integration patterns for distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven architectures
Mainframe Modernization & Cloud Transformation
- Lead architecture initiatives for modernizing legacy mainframe-based insurance systems
- Design strategies for mainframe integration, refactoring, replatforming, or migration to cloud platforms
- Architect hybrid solutions that connect mainframe applications with cloud services and modern microservices architectures
- Enable data and service exposure from mainframe environments through APIs and integration layers

AI & Innovation Enablement
- Identify opportunities to leverage Generative AI, AI/ML, and intelligent automation within insurance processes
- Design architectures that integrate AI services with enterprise applications and data platforms
- Collaborate with engineering and data teams to support AI/ML model deployment and operationalization
- Ensure responsible AI practices, including governance, security, and data privacy
Cloud Architecture
- Design scalable architectures on Azure (preferred) or AWS
- Architect solutions using services such as:
- Azure: AKS, Azure Functions, IAM, Networking, Azure OpenAI
- AWS: ECS, Lambda, S3, IAM, Bedrock, SageMaker
- Promote cloud-native design principles, automation, and DevOps practices
Solution Delivery & Collaboration
- Partner with business leaders, product teams, application developers, infrastructure, integration, and security teams
- Support delivery teams during implementation to ensure architecture alignment
- Identify and mitigate technical risks including integration, modernization, and AI-related risks
- Provide architectural guidance for digital transformation initiatives across insurance platforms

Qualifications
- Insurance industry experience
- 6–9+ years of experience in Solution Architecture, Application Architecture, or Senior Engineering roles
- Experience with mainframe environments and modernization strategies
- Experience designing enterprise-scale distributed systems
- Strong cloud architecture experience with Azure (preferred) or AWS
- Experience designing application integrations, APIs, and data pipelines
- Experience producing architecture documentation and diagrams
- Solid understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF preferred)
- Knowledge of Gen AI, AI/ML services, and enterprise AI use cases
- Familiarity with AI platforms such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or SageMaker
- Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation initiatives
