Job Overview
We are seeking a UK Product Support Installation Engineer / Field Service Engineer to join the Customer Projects team in a national field-based role across the UK and Ireland. The role involves installing, configuring, and supporting high-volume diagnostic laboratory instruments and medical analytical systems in customer laboratories.
This position is ideal for engineers with a background in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, medical technology, diagnostics equipment installation, or laboratory instrumentation support.
The successful candidate will perform instrument installations, troubleshooting, technical support, and customer-facing engineering activities while ensuring compliance with health & safety, IT security, and laboratory policies.
Regular travel and overnight stays across the UK and Ireland are required.
Key Responsibilities
Instrument Installation & Technical Support
- Perform high-quality installation, de-installation, and relocation of complex diagnostic and laboratory instrumentation.
- Install and configure high-volume analytical systems and supporting infrastructure including data managers, connectivity systems, and network/firewall integrations.
- Deliver installations within allocated project timelines and installation schedules.
- Provide first-level technical troubleshooting and diagnostics support during installation and commissioning.
- Escalate technical issues to advanced support teams when required.

Field Engineering & Customer Support
- Deliver on-site engineering support within hospital laboratories, diagnostics labs, and clinical environments.
- Ensure optimal use of customer laboratory space during instrument installation.
- Work closely with internal technical services teams and project managers to coordinate installation activities.
- Represent the organisation professionally while interacting with laboratory managers, biomedical scientists, and technical staff.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Follow health & safety guidelines and laboratory safety protocols while performing field engineering activities.
- Ensure compliance with information security policies, particularly relating to Patient Identifiable Data (PID).
- Maintain accurate documentation of installation activities and service updates within CRM and service management systems.
- Track installation timelines and case updates through internal service tools.
Knowledge Sharing & Continuous Improvement
- Review technical updates and product documentation to maintain up-to-date knowledge of instrumentation and system upgrades.
- Share best practices and installation procedures with the wider engineering team.
- Collaborate with installation experts to develop improved installation processes and operational efficiency.

Training & Professional Development

Required Qualifications
- Qualified Engineer in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Medical Technology, OR
- Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent qualification such as ONC, HND, City & Guilds, Diploma, or Degree.

- Understanding of the diagnostics or life sciences industry.
- Experience providing on-site engineering support for complex technical equipment.
