Job Description
Channel Fusion serves 30+ enterprise clients in channel marketing and incentive management. Each client has a unique tech stack, data ecosystem, and integration landscape โ and today, the complexity of connecting those systems to our platform is spread across too many people with no clear ownership.
The Forward Deployed Engineer changes that. You are the technical bridge between the client's world and Channel Fusion's platform. You own the data mapping, integration architecture, and hands-on implementation for your assigned enterprise accounts. You're paired 1:1 with a Field Product Manager โ they define what gets built, you figure out how it connects.
This role was pioneered by companies like Palantir, Databricks, and Snowflake where enterprise clients need dedicated technical resources embedded in their problem space. At Channel Fusion, the FDE model solves a specific pain: client integrations and data flows are where most defects and delays originate. You own that problem end-to-end.
Reports To
Director of Tech Solutions Lab โ with day-to-day pairing alongside the Field Product Manager
Compensation
$95,000โ$135,000 base salary
- Variable (Year 2+): 10โ15% bonus tied to integration quality metrics (defect rate on integrations, deployment success rate) and client technical satisfaction
- Signing/relocation consideration for candidates outside the Cedar Falls metro area
Salary Rationale
FDE roles command a premium over standard software engineering roles due to the client-facing component and breadth of technical knowledge required. Comparable roles at Palantir ($120Kโ$160K), Databricks ($115Kโ$150K), and mid-market B2B SaaS companies in the Midwest ($90Kโ$130K) inform this range. The Cedar Falls location and Channel Fusion's stage of growth position this at the mid-market range with upside as the role matures.
What You Own
- Client Technical Stack & Data Mapping โ Understand each client's systems, data sources, file formats, and integration points. Build and maintain the technical map of how their data flows into and out of Channel Fusion's platform.

- Integration Architecture & Implementation โ Design, build, and maintain the data pipelines, API connections, ETL processes, and file ingestion workflows that connect client systems to our platform. You write code, you debug pipelines, you fix broken integrations.
- Data Quality & Validation โ Ensure data coming into the platform is clean, correctly mapped, and passing validation rules. When data issues cause defects downstream, you trace the root cause and fix the pipeline.
- Technical Troubleshooting โ When something breaks on a client account, you're the first technical responder. You diagnose whether the issue is in the integration layer, the data, or the platform โ and route accordingly.
- Client Technical Engagement โ You join client calls alongside the CSM and Field PM when technical depth is needed. You explain data flows, integration timelines, and technical constraints in language the client can understand.
- Embedded Support During Implementation โ For new client onboarding or major feature launches, you're embedded in the project โ ensuring the technical connection between the client's environment and our platform works end-to-end.
What You Do NOT Own
- Requirements and specifications โ Owned by the Field Product Manager (you inform technical feasibility, they decide scope)
- Client relationship and retention โ Owned by the Customer Success Manager
- Platform architecture and core product engineering โ Owned by the platform engineering teams
- Sprint planning and delivery timelines โ Owned by the Director of TSL
- Escalation communication to the client โ Owned by the CSM (you provide technical detail when needed)
