Context And Mission
The mission of the AI Institute at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is to aaccelerate the development of advanced artificial intelligence solutions within a multidisciplinary research environment where supercomputing and AI converge in areas such as biomedicine, climate, engineering, computational architecture, and the humanities. The SMART (Single- and Multi-Agent Research Team) research group is part of the AI Institutde, and it performs research in Artificial Intelligence, focused on doing research on verifiable methods for building and understanding agent systems, including logic-symbolic, reinforcement learning and LLM-based agents.
The post holder will work on AIXPERT and GRAIL, two European research projects focused on building agent systems that can operate in a diverse set of use cases and scenarios ranging from simple Human-AI interaction to robotics and logistics, while trying to make such systems more robust, reliable and verifiable.
The work will combine duties in the fields of machine learning, software engineering, and human-centered design. The post holder will be assessing and building the tools, systems, and infrastructure behind platforms powered by large language models (LLMs), multi-agent systems, knowledge graphs, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
The Engineer will work in a highly sophisticated HPC environment, have access to state-of-the-art systems and computational infrastructures, and establish collaborations with experts in different areas at the local and international levels.
Key Duties
- Work on the design and development of the software solutions needed to achieve the goals of the AIXPERT and GRAIL projects
- Build and maintain the platformโs core components: agent systems, explainability features, RAG-based memory, and APIs
- Interact with relevant stakeholders of the project to understand the evolving needs of the projects' platforms and participate in the planning of BSCโs tasks
- Support testing the platforms across different use cases
- Participate in the research and dissemination activities relevant to BSCโs contributions to the project
- Education
- Bachelor degree or equivalent (Degree in Artificial Intelligence or Computer Science preferred), or near finishing

- The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration

The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposiciรณn"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
- Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
- Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.
The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
