Job Description

Job Summary

Primoris Renewable Energy is a leading solar construction company dedicated to powering communities with clean, renewable energy across the United States. Our team is purpose-driven, harnessing the power of solar to create sustainable futures, embody core values, and foster a culture of inclusion, safety, and growth. As an organization, we believe the best part of working on our team is our commitment to making tomorrow better than today—for our customers, communities, and each other.

The Training Supervisor is a fully remote position, leading a team of 4-6 onsite field trainers responsible for delivering hands-on, location-based training to employees across various solar project sites. The field trainers teach the curriculum for the company's Registered Apprenticeship Program in general construction, focusing on practical skills, safety protocols, site preparation, equipment handling, and related competencies to prepare apprentices for careers in solar installation and construction. This role ensures consistent, high-quality training delivery, upholds training standards, develops trainer skills, and drives ongoing improvement in training outcomes. The position requires approximately 75% travel to visit field locations, observe training sessions, provide direct coaching, and support trainers on-site. As needed, the Training Supervisor may also facilitate classes, workshops, or training sessions directly to support program delivery, fill gaps, or model best practices. The Training Supervisor reports to the Training Manager and aligns field training efforts with company objectives while working independently from a home office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and Lead Direct Reports:
    • Directly manage 4-6 onsite field trainers remotely, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, mentoring, discipline, and career development.
    • Hold regular virtual one-on-one meetings, conduct performance reviews, and set individual/team goals focused on key performance metrics, such as apprentice competency progression and program completion rates.
    • Build and maintain a motivated, high-performing remote/field-based team culture.
  • Field Oversight and Travel (75% Travel Required):
    • Travel 75% of the time (including overnight stays) to various solar field sites nationwide as needed to observe trainers delivering apprenticeship curriculum sessions.
    • Deliver real-time, in-person coaching, constructive feedback, and hands-on support during onsite visits.
    • Verify adherence to company training protocols, methodologies, safety standards, best practices, DOL Registered Apprenticeship requirements, and compliance standards in the field.
  • Training Program Management:
    • Oversee the creation, updating, delivery, and refinement of field-based training programs and supporting materials for the Registered Apprenticeship Program in general construction.
    • Perform training needs assessments via input from trainers, apprentices, stakeholders, and performance data, addressing skill or knowledge gaps relevant to solar construction work.
    • Coordinate remote scheduling, trainer assignments, and logistics to optimize coverage and efficiency across dispersed solar project sites.
    • Facilitate classes, workshops, or training sessions directly as required (e.g., to pilot new curriculum modules, cover for team members, demonstrate advanced techniques, or address urgent organizational needs).
  • Quality Assurance and Evaluation:
    • Evaluate training effectiveness and individual trainer performance through field observations, apprentice assessments, practical demonstrations, and key metrics (retention rates, on-the-job application, satisfaction scores, apprenticeship milestone achievement).
    • Perform quality audits of sessions and documentation to ensure standardization and compliance with Registered Apprenticeship Program standards and applicable regulations.
    • Identify improvement opportunities in content, delivery, or processes and partner on revisions.
  • Trainer Development:
    • Create and execute continuous development plans for field trainers, including virtual workshops, certifications, skill enhancement, and peer sharing sessions focused on effective apprenticeship instruction.
    • Act as a remote mentor and expert resource, promoting best practices in adult learning, advanced facilitation techniques, and effective training delivery for registered apprenticeship programs.
    • Occasionally facilitate or co-facilitate training classes to model effective instruction, provide hands-on examples, or support trainer skill-building.
  • Reporting and Administration:
    • Monitor and report on training KPIs, program results (e.g., apprenticeship completion rates, skill acquisition), trainer performance, and travel activities using remote tools and dashboards.
    • Maintain accurate digital records of sessions, certifications, evaluations, apprenticeship progress documentation, and compliance records.
    • Prepare and present periodic reports/updates to leadership on program status, achievements, challenges, and proposed solutions.
  • General Supervisory Duties:
    • Enforce company policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards across the remote/field team, including DOL Registered Apprenticeship compliance.
    • Manage team-related resources such as training materials, and development expenses (as applicable).
    • Handle escalated field issues related to training delivery, apprentice performance, or operational concerns.
    • Partner cross-functionally (e.g., with HR, operations, safety, quality) to support broader business goals, including apprenticeship program success and workforce development.
    • Lead or contribute to training-related projects and organizational initiatives.
    • Facilitate classes or deliver targeted training sessions when necessary to ensure program continuity, demonstrate leadership in training excellence, or respond to specific business demands.
Qualifications And Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Training & Development, Business, Human Resources, or related field (preferred); equivalent experience accepted.
