Job Description


Infrastructure Engineer contract opportunity; IAM experience required. Fully remote in NZ. Until end of June.

You will be joining a large, complex organisation delivering critical services across New Zealand. The organisation is undertaking ongoing transformation and digital uplift, with a strong focus on security, resilience, and ensuring its identity and access platforms can adapt to continual organisational change.

This is a design-focussed role, with the responsibility of shaping a future-state Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID model and supporting its successful implementation through change and stakeholder engagement.

The primary objective is to create a flexible, role‑aligned directory structure that is easier to manage, improves security and access alignment, and can adapt to ongoing organisational evolution with minimal impact on end users.

Over time, incremental changes have added complexity to the current environment. This engagement will address those challenges through pragmatic, well‑documented design that simplifies structure, supports role-based access, and establishes a more sustainable foundation going forward.

You will need experience in the below:

AD and Entra Review

  • Review the current Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID environments.
  • Assess alignment with organisational roles, operating models, and security requirements.
AD Structure Design & Documentation
  • Design and document a future‑state AD structure that supports a changing organisational model.
  • Address complexity caused by frequently changing organisational hierarchies (e.g. regions, districts, areas, stations).
  • Prioritise role‑based access and functional alignment, rather than purely hierarchical structures.
Implementation Support & Environmental Clean‑up
  • Act as the solution designer, producing clear, high‑quality design documentation.
  • Support the implementation phase by providing advice on execution, sequencing, and risk mitigation.
  • Identify opportunities to rationalise, clean up, or retire obsolete groups, structures, and configurations.
Change Planning & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work closely with operational and technical stakeholders to develop an implementation plan that minimises user disruption.
  • Coordinate activity alongside two parallel initiatives:
    • A concurrent organisational structure change.
    • A security programme reviewing and implementing access and use controls.
Supporting Components Review
  • Review existing logon scripts and supporting components.
  • Identify and document required changes to support the new AD design and implementation.
