Job Description
The University of St Andrews is seeking to appoint a creative, highly-skilled, and globally minded Social Media Manager to join the newly established and growing Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs team.
This is a new, strategic role within the University’s Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs team. The Social Media Manager will lead the development and implementation of the University’s social media strategy, aligning with strategic goals and enhancing the University’s digital presence, reputation, and engagement across international markets.
Our team’s mission is to tell the stories of St Andrews, to demonstrate the University’s global impact, engage diverse audiences, support student recruitment, promote world-leading research, and protect and enhance our institutional reputation.
The Social Media Manager will provide expert leadership in all aspects of social media, ensuring that the University’s presence across platforms is consistent, creative, data-informed, and aligned with institutional goals. An in-depth understanding of international social media channels, including platforms prominent in China and South East Asia, such as WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu, and others is essential.
We are looking for a digital-first communicator with a proven track record in multi-channel strategy, content development for diverse audiences, business account management, and the execution of both organic and paid campaigns. The ideal candidate will understand not only how to craft compelling content but also how to manage the back-end functions of social media, including analytics, governance, advertising tools, security, and platform-specific compliance.

This is an exciting opportunity to help define and deliver the University’s digital voice and join a team committed to collaboration, storytelling, reputation, and innovation. You will play a central role in strengthening our visibility and impact across platforms and audiences.
Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Social Media Manager will collaborate and work alongside colleagues across Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs. The postholder will contribute to the effective daily operation of communications, marketing, and public affairs, leading on social media activity and acting as a specialist advisor, while providing expert guidance and support to colleagues across the team.
Your work will help ensure the effective coordination of campaigns and projects aligned to the University Strategy 2022–2027.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a small but essential team at the heart of one of the UK’s leading universities. The post is based primarily at Walter Bower House at Eden Campus as part of the wider Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs team.
