2. About the Opportunity:
The Senior Data Engineer will support and enhance the analytical data infrastructure, enabling access to large, complex datasets including genomic, phenotypic, environmental, image, and geospatial data. This role involves collaborating with business stakeholders to align technical strategies with strategic goals and working alongside DevOps teams to build and maintain high-performance, real-time data pipelines, primarily using AWS technologies. The position is critical for embedding data quality monitoring, advancing automation, and integrating advanced analytics to support machine learning and statistical analysis. This role is fully remote.
3. Responsibilities:
• Support analytical data infrastructure for complex datasets
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to develop technical strategies
• Interface with DevOps to extract, load, and transform data using big data technologies
• Deploy high-value, high-performance datasets
• Create and maintain real-time data pipelines on AWS
• Embed data quality monitoring and intelligent reporting with anomaly detection
• Research and implement new big data and visualization technologies
• Collaborate with data scientists and technical teams to integrate advanced analytics into pipelines
• Improve automation and simplify data-as-a-service offerings

4. Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Minimum five years of experience as a Data Engineer, Software Engineer, Technology Analyst, or related role
• Five years of experience with:
• Implementing end-to-end data solutions with data models, pipelines, and business intelligence
• Designing DW architectures, OLAP technologies, and schema design (Star, Snowflake)
• Building BI and big data reporting solutions using Tableau, OBIEE, Looker, or PowerBI
• Architecting database systems using Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, Spark, or Hadoop
• Working with data structures, algorithms, and programming/scripting languages such as Shell, Python, Scala, or PySpark
• Three years of experience with:
• Designing real-time analytics platforms with sub-minute latencies using Kafka, Spark, AWS, or GCP
• Using Datadog for data quality monitoring and alert setup
• Building self-service BI capabilities and CI/CD frameworks with Buildkite, Jenkins, or Gitlab
• Collaborating with Data Scientists on data products for machine learning, clustering, prediction, and statistics
• Building ETL pipelines with big data technologies including BigQuery, Redshift, BigTable, Aerospike, Dataproc, or EMR
• Must pass background check and drug test prior to employment
