Key Responsibilities
Develop, create, and modify computer applications software or specialized utility programs to meet project requirements
Design and develop microservices within a cloud-native environment, primarily using AWS GovCloud
Operate and maintain enterprise-scale production systems, ensuring high availability and performance
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues promptly to minimize downtime
Analyze user needs and develop robust software solutions aligned with organizational and mission objectives
Design and develop databases within application areas, collaborating with team members as needed
Apply principles of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to system design and optimization
Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring junior developers to promote engineering excellence
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, Security, Product, and Architecture to deliver integrated solutions
Support migration of legacy systems from mainframes to cloud environments, focusing on functionality and performance
Implement search capabilities using Elasticsearch or similar technologies to enhance analytical capabilities for law enforcement users
Build scalable microservices on OpenShift container platforms following cloud-native best practices
Support full-stack development efforts, including UI integration using modern JavaScript frameworks
Contribute to event-driven architecture implementations and high-throughput data processing systems

About The Role

We are seeking a talented Junior Backend Software Developer to join our dynamic team supporting a high-visibility federal modernization program. This fully remote role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale, mission-critical government IT systems. As part of our team, you will work on impactful projects that modernize legacy platforms, implement cutting-edge cloud technologies, and develop innovative microservices. This role requires at least a Secret Security Clearance and offers the flexibility of remote work with occasional travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of work experience or Associate’s Degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Active Tier 3 Secret Security Clearance (or higher)
  • Proficiency in Java and Object-Oriented Programming
  • Experience developing microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and automated deployment tools
  • Experience designing, developing, and operating solutions within AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and technologies such as Apache Kafka, Pub/Sub patterns, streaming, or event sourcing
  • Experience working within GitOps practices using tools like GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or ArgoCD
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks, including participation in Scrum or SAFe ceremonies
  • Proficiency with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket
