Position Overview/Duties
This position serves as an Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC) working for the Chief, Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) Branch of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Army Corps of Engineers Information Technology (G6) Cyber Security Directorate. Employee is a technical expert for Digital Forensics and Incident Handling initiatives or roles as assigned by the Cyber Incident Response Branch Chief/Cyber Network Defense Division Chief on IT systems security principles, concepts, and methods for the purposes of transforming, modernizing, and enhancing the digital forensics and incident handling capabilities of USACE.
GS-7 Specialized Experience
This is an entry-level, developmental position one year of specialized experience which include: 1) Supports incident response activities by documenting events, tracking tickets, and gathering initial information from users as directed by supervisor. 2) Observes the operation of enterprise security tools (like SIEM to become familiar with security monitoring and assists in generating routine reports.

One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Assists higher-grade analysts in handling security incidents by following detailed instructions to help with detection and isolation. Relays scripted instructions and basic security guidance to end-users and the service desk as directed by a senior analyst. 2) Monitors security alerts and tools for specific, pre-defined indicators of compromise and reports all findings to a supervisor for analysis.
GS-11: Specialized Experience
One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Independently handles common incidents and provides reliable support, escalating complex issues. Serves as an incident handler for routine security events, following established procedures for discovery, isolation, and recovery, while assisting senior analysts on more complex incidents. 2) Provides technical guidance to the service desk and users on how to respond to common security issues. Actively monitors security tools (like SIEM) for potential intrusions, analyzes the initial findings, and escalates credible threats to senior handlers.
GS-12 Specialized Experience
- Serves as an incident handler for USACE and G6 for all computer incidents from discovery/detection, to isolation, to recovery/remediation, to root cause analysis by following prescribed standard operating procedures AND assess the success of attacks, analyzes and exploits vulnerabilities using tools, processes, and techniques designed to provide fact-based analysis to other stakeholders in the vulnerability disclosure process. 2) Assists and provides direction to the enterprise service desk, desktop technicians, managers, general users/customers, and other stake-holders for incident response. Monitors the Security Event and Incident Management (SEIM) and other enterprise tools for indications of a potential intrusion or violation of existing USACE, Army, or Department of Defense (DoD) policies.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

This position is an on-call 24X7 and/or incumbent may be required to work overtime as mission requires.
TDY is required up to 25% of the time.
