About the Role
We're looking for a remote HR Manager to own the full human resources function at a fast-growing cloud accounting firm — bringing structure, consistency, and care to a globally distributed team of 70+ professionals.
In this role, you'll manage the full employee lifecycle across a team of bookkeepers, accountants, tax professionals, and administrators — spanning recruitment through offboarding, performance, compliance, and everything in between. You'll be a trusted confidant for teammates, a reliable partner to leadership, and the person keeping people processes running smoothly as the firm expands into Latin America and the Philippines.
What makes this role distinct is context. Your finance background sharpens your instincts during screening, helps you speak credibly with candidates and managers, and gives you a deeper lens on the roles you're supporting than a generalist hire could. The right person grows into a senior leadership seat as the firm scales.
Our IDEAL CANDIDATE brings 3+ years of experience in HR, including at least 1–2 years working in bookkeeping or accounting. You're the kind of person whose presence is felt as relief — managers hand things to you and stop thinking about them, knowing they'll be handled well. You take feedback without getting defensive, and when you encounter an existing process, your instinct is to improve it — not bypass it. Above all, attitude is everything: curious, accountable, warm, and genuinely invested in the people around you. You know what you're doing, and you care deeply about how you do it.
Performance Metrics: Your performance will be measured by the quality and consistency of HR operations, employee satisfaction, compliance with Canadian labour laws, and the smoothness of people processes across the organization.
Reporting Structure: You'll be on the Admin Team and will collaborate with the entire team, most closely with the Office Manager day-to-day. This position is co-managed by the Office Manager and the Partners.
You’ll be doing things like:
- Employee Relations: serving as a trusted confidant for staff across the organization; holding salary data, personal matters, and employer decisions in strict confidence; escalating sensitive issues with judgement and tact; advising managers on people matters; fostering a positive, inclusive culture across a globally distributed team
- HR Operations: maintaining employee records and HR data in BambooHR; managing onboarding and offboarding including tool access provisioning and coordination with the MSP vendor; liaising between employees and the payroll processor to keep records in sync; preparing HR reports and analytics for leadership
- Performance Management: building and running the firm's performance review cycle; developing scorecards and metrics that bring structure to reviews while preserving leadership's discretion on bonuses, raises, and promotions; tying metrics to incentive structures; managing PIPs end-to-end including documentation and check-ins
- Recruitment & Talent Acquisition: supporting full-cycle hiring including job postings, screening, interview coordination, and pre-start onboarding; partnering with managers on job descriptions and quarterly hiring plans; applying your accounting and bookkeeping background to independently evaluate candidate fit for finance-function roles
- HR Policies & Compliance: maintaining HR policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with Canadian labour laws across all provinces where staff are located; proactively flagging compliance gaps to leadership
- Compensation & Benefits: administering compensation and benefits programs for Canadian and offshore staff; supporting salary benchmarking and compensation reviews; administering the offshore quarterly health stipend; coordinating with benefits providers including AGA
- Team Logistics & Culture: coordinating hardware provisioning and swag for new hires; serving as the central logistics point of contact for the India team; planning corporate retreats and firm-wide events
