Job Description
About Proof
We're Proof, a high growth company in the legal tech industry founded in 2017. Each month, thousands of law firms use our platform to manage service of process nationwide, with over a million legal documents processed to date. Our marketplace platform helps law firms and pro se parties access more efficient, transparent, and accessible legal services that are not traditionally available to everyone. Our primary services are Service of Process and E-Filing.
We welcome people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to help build a future where access to legal services is readily available, affordable, and efficient. Work with us if you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit to achieve the fundamental change in an outdated industry.
About the Role
We're seeking a Product Designer to join our design team, embedded with our client-facing growth squad.
Our product is how law firms manage service of process — tracking jobs, communicating with process servers, and filing documents across all 50 states. Your job is to make that experience feel fast, clear, and trustworthy to the attorneys and legal professionals relying on it every day.
This squad is responsible for the full law firm journey: turning signups into active users, building the integrations that win enterprise deals, and launching new product surfaces that expand what Proof can do for clients. We're not just improving existing features — we're building new ones. That means more ambiguity, more surface area, and more opportunity to shape the product in a meaningful direction.
You'll also be working on AI experiments — features that surface smart defaults, reduce repetitive work, and help clients get to the information they need faster. We ship these like any other product: with clear success metrics and a feedback loop.
What You'll Do
- Own design across the client experience — job tracking, onboarding, integrations, and the new product surfaces that drive law firm growth
- Run and ship AI experiments — we have live AI in our product today and we're actively expanding it. You'll help design, test, and iterate on those experiments fast
- Use AI tools to prototype — Claude Code, Lovable, v0, or whatever gets you to a working prototype quickly. We expect this to be part of how you work, not a bonus skill
- Talk to law firm clients — understand what they're trying to do, where they get stuck, and what would actually make their day easier
- Design for growth — think about activation, retention, and what makes a user successful on Proof. Your design decisions should be measurable
- Work with our design system (Atlas for web, Compass for mobile) — use what we have, extend it when needed, keep things consistent
- Partner with engineers and PMs — push for good UX while being realistic about what we can ship in a cycle
- Actually measure if your designs work — task completion, activation rates, feature adoption, support volume. Know what success looks like before you ship
- New product surfaces that expand what law firms can do on Proof
- Onboarding flows that get new users to their first successful job fast
- Integration experiences for law practice management systems and enterprise clients
- AI-powered features that reduce repetitive inputs and surface the right information at the right time
- Job tracking and status experiences that reduce the need for clients to reach out for updates
- Firm account and settings interfaces for clients with complex needs

- 5-7 years designing client-facing or consumer products (B2B SaaS with real workflow complexity, not just marketing sites)
- You've shipped things you can point to — your portfolio shows work that launched. We want to see the before/after, what you learned, and how you know it worked
- You use AI tools to prototype — Claude Code, Lovable, v0, Cursor, or similar. You're comfortable generating a working prototype before writing a single spec, and you treat these tools as a core part of your process
- You think about growth — you understand activation, retention, and the moments that make or break user adoption
- You know how to learn from users — you talk to people, validate assumptions, and don't just guess what they need
- You can break complex stuff into simple steps — especially for clients who are not technical and just want to get their legal work done
- You're pragmatic — you'd rather ship something good and learn from it than wait for perfect
- You've worked with design systems — you know how to use components and when to extend them
- You work well with engineers and PMs — you can have productive conversations about tradeoffs
- You can explain your thinking — both the "what" and the "why" behind your decisions
- You care about the experience from a client's first impression through their hundredth job
- You're energized by moving fast — prototyping, testing, shipping, iterating
- You're genuinely excited about what AI can do to improve product experiences (not just as a buzzword)
- You believe in understanding user workflows deeply before proposing solutions
- You're comfortable with ambiguity and know how to create clarity from it
- You're motivated by seeing your work drive real product outcomes
- You bring a sense of humor to work — we tackle serious problems but don't take ourselves too seriously

We make hiring decisions based on your portfolio first. The resume supplements it — it doesn't replace it. No portfolio link means no review, full stop.
We're looking for evidence of shipped work. Show us things that launched, not just concepts. Clean and considered > flashy and shallow.
During interviews, you'll walk through 2-3 projects that demonstrate:
- Work that shipped and results you can speak to
- How you approach complexity and competing user needs
- Your prototyping process, including any AI tools you used to move faster
- Salary range: $130,000 - $160,000 CAD based on experience and location
- Full-time, salary, remote position
- Flexible Time off and paid holidays
- Healthcare, Dental, Vision, and Disability insurance available
- Necessary equipment provided
This is a fully remote role. Our team spans EST to PST, with most of the engineering and ops team based in Eastern Time. You're welcome to work when you're most productive, but we expect overlap with Eastern Time hours (roughly 9-5 EST) for team rituals, design syncs, and cross-functional collaboration. Early morning meetings happen occasionally — it comes with the timezone spread.
