About The Role

We are seeking a skilled WordPress Developer to join our team on a 6-month contract basis, supporting a client project in Central Illinois. This role is ideal for a developer who possesses a strong foundation in both front-end and back-end WordPress development, capable of creating custom themes and plugins from scratch. The successful candidate will be responsible for building high-performance, scalable websites, integrating third-party services, and ensuring optimal site performance and security. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have more than three years of professional experience in WordPress development, demonstrating proficiency in PHP and MySQL. A deep understanding of the WordPress core, including hooks, actions, filters, and template hierarchy, is essential. Experience with modern development tools such as Git, local development environments like LocalWP or Docker, and troubleshooting complex issues is required. Bonus qualifications include experience with headless WordPress architectures, accessibility standards (WCAG), and familiarity with automated testing or CI/CD pipelines. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal, and possess permanent authorization to work in the USA.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this role include building custom WordPress themes and plugins using PHP, ensuring they are lightweight, maintainable, and scalable. Developing custom blocks for the WordPress Block Editor to enhance content management flexibility is also a key task. The developer will connect WordPress sites with third-party services through REST APIs, such as CRMs, payment gateways, and marketing automation tools. Regular site audits to improve load speeds, Core Web Vitals, and SEO health are essential to maintain high-performance standards. Additionally, the role involves troubleshooting plugin conflicts, performing core updates, and implementing security best practices to safeguard websites against vulnerabilities. The developer will collaborate closely with project teams to deliver high-quality solutions and support ongoing site maintenance and optimization efforts.
