Team Overview

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

  • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
  • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
  • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
  • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

The Infrastructure Platform Architect is a senior architecture role responsible for the end‑to‑end design, evolution, and lifecycle management of enterprise infrastructure platforms spanning on‑premises Data Centres, hybrid cloud environments, and digital workplace solutions. The role focuses on building secure, resilient, observable, and cost‑efficient infrastructure foundations that enable digital business solutions, enterprise applications, and data platforms at scale.

This role defines target‑state architectures, technology roadmaps, and legacy technology modernization opportunities for compute, storage, networking, cloud platforms, and workplace enablement services.

The architect operates at the intersection of business strategy, solution architecture, platform engineering and operations, and cybersecurity, translating business and risk requirements into pragmatic, implementable infrastructure designs. Success in this role requires strong technical problem solving, a self-starter inquisitive approach, architectural leadership, and the ability to influence across delivery teams, vendors, and managed service providers.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Own the end‑to‑end architecture, evolution, and lifecycle of enterprise infrastructure and Data Centre platforms across on‑premises and hybrid environments.
  • Define and evolve target‑state architectures, roadmaps, and transition strategies aligned to business outcomes and digital priorities.
  • Establish and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, and guardrails that enable consistent, scalable, and repeatable infrastructure solutions.
  • Apply strong problem discovery skills to proactively identify architectural gaps, risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity by continuously exploring emerging practices, operating models, and industry trends to inform future‑state direction.
  • Drive automation‑first and self‑service approaches to improve reliability, delivery speed, and operational consistency.
  • Embed resilience, reliability, performance, and observability considerations into all platform designs.
  • Translate business, regulatory, and security requirements into pragmatic, implementable architecture decisions.
  • Provide architectural leadership through design reviews, governance forums, and transparent technical decision‑making, and identifying process improvement opportunities.
  • Partner closely with engineering, operations, security, and application delivery teams to ensure platforms are operable, supportable, and sustainable.
  • Take ownership for outcomes by working independently, prioritizing effectively, and driving initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Promote continuous improvement by challenging the status quo and advocating for better ways of designing, delivering, and operating platforms.
  • Support financial stewardship through cost‑aware design, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
  • Mentor and guide engineers and architects, fostering a culture of learning, documentation quality, and shared accountability.

What We Are Looking For

Experience & Scope

  • Looking for 7+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or architecture‑related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and evolving enterprise infrastructure platforms within defined domains or portfolios.
  • Experience contributing to target‑state architectures and roadmaps aligned to business and digital priorities.

Architecture & Design

  • Strong understanding of infrastructure and platform concepts across multiple areas (e.g., compute, networking, storage, Data Centre management, cloud‑integrated environments).
  • Proven ability to translate business, security, and operational requirements into practical architecture designs.
  • Experience creating or applying reference architectures, standards, and design patterns.

Delivery & Improvement

  • Familiarity with automation, standardization, and modern delivery practices.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and ability to identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to work effectively across technical and non‑technical teams.
  • Experience participating in architecture reviews, governance processes, and design discussions.
  • Self‑motivated and capable of working independently with guidance and direction.

Mentorship & Growth

  • Experience mentoring or supporting engineers or architects in technical and architectural development.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and continuous learning mindset.
