About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Rust Software Developer to join our client's dynamic engineering team in Herndon, VA. This is a direct placement opportunity offering paid relocation assistance and a competitive annual salary of up to $230,000. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in developing mission-critical systems using the Rust programming language. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in guiding the next generation of embedded software systems, supporting the development, deployment, and maintenance of complex hardware-software interfaces. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement high-performance, reliable software solutions that meet stringent operational requirements. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects within a secure environment, contributing to national security and defense initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with at least 12 years of relevant experience. Candidates with a graduate degree should have a minimum of 10 years of experience, while those without a degree must demonstrate at least 16 years of extensive industry experience. A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing software in Rust for production systems is required, along with a deep understanding of the language's features and best practices. Proven experience with C/C++ development and object-oriented design principles is essential. Candidates must possess U.S. citizenship and hold an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with embedded real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, Linux, or Integrity are also required.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include supporting the engineering team in embedded software development with Rust, leading the adoption and implementation of Rust across multiple product lines, and applying engineering principles to develop robust software solutions. You will work closely with hardware and software teams to develop and evaluate interfaces, ensuring system performance aligns with operational requirements. Participating in all phases of the software development lifecycle—from requirements analysis and design to hardware integration and formal testing—will be a core part of your role. You will investigate complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions independently or collaboratively. Developing comprehensive software test plans, technical documentation, and conducting experimental tests using modeling tools will be integral to your responsibilities. You will also serve as a technical mentor and reviewer for junior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and technical growth within the team. Additionally, travel exceeding 30% may be required for onboarding, integration, or scrum activities at other company locations.

Benefits

Our client offers a competitive compensation package, including a salary of up to $230,000 annually, with paid relocation assistance to support your transition. Employees benefit from comprehensive health insurance plans, retirement savings options, paid time off, and professional development opportunities. The organization promotes a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging continuous learning and career advancement. Additionally, the role provides exposure to cutting-edge technologies and mission-critical projects that make a meaningful impact on national security and defense.
