We're expanding into Web3 with a specific offering: fractional CMO services for digital asset companies that need senior marketing leadership but aren't ready — or don't need — a full-time hire. The demand is real. The talent gap is real. We're looking for someone who can fill it.



About the Role


Most Web3 companies are in one of two situations. Either they have a founding team that's technically exceptional but has no idea how to build a marketing function — or they have a marketing team that's executing without real strategic direction, burning budget on campaigns that don't compound.


A fractional CMO solves both. You come in at the leadership level, own the marketing strategy, build or align the team, and drive measurable outcomes — across multiple clients simultaneously, on a retainer basis.


This isn't a consultant who presents decks and disappears. You'll be embedded in your clients' operations — in their Slack, in their weekly leadership meetings, driving their roadmap. The difference is that you're doing it across 3–5 companies at once, which means your pattern recognition compounds fast and your leverage is high.


You'll operate with Consulting Out Loud's behavioral science methodology as your strategic backbone — giving you a framework that most Web3 CMOs don't have access to.



What You'll Be Doing


- Serving as the senior marketing leader for 3–5 Web3 clients simultaneously on a retainer basis — owning strategy, team direction, and performance accountability

- Building or restructuring clients' marketing functions: hiring decisions, agency selection, channel mix, budget allocation, team structure

- Developing brand positioning and go-to-market strategy grounded in buyer psychology — narrative, differentiation, target audience definition, competitive positioning

- Leading growth strategy across acquisition channels relevant to Web3: community, content, partnerships, KOLs, SEO, paid, events

- Setting and owning KPIs: user acquisition cost, community growth rate, protocol TVL contribution, token holder growth, brand sentiment

- Applying Consulting Out Loud's NEURO Switches framework to client marketing — identifying which psychological triggers to activate at each stage of the user or investor journey

- Running weekly strategy sessions and monthly board-level marketing reviews with client leadership

- Contributing to Consulting Out Loud's fractional CMO practice — refining the delivery model, client onboarding process, and results framework



What We're Looking For


- 5+ years of senior marketing leadership experience — VP of Marketing, CMO, or Head of Growth level

- Meaningful time in Web3: you've led or significantly contributed to the marketing function at a protocol, fund, exchange, or infrastructure company

- Proven ability to own a full marketing function — not just execute within one, but build it, lead it, and be accountable for its outcomes

- Strong understanding of Web3-specific growth dynamics: community-led growth, token incentives, on-chain metrics, protocol adoption curves

- Experience managing or directing marketing teams and external agencies — you know how to get output from people you don't directly control

- Comfortable operating across 3–5 clients at once — you're organized, you context-switch well, and you can separate signal from noise quickly

- Sharp strategic communicator — you can run a board-level marketing review and a team standup on the same day and own both

- Bonus: experience building or scaling a fractional or advisory practice of your own

- Bonus: strong existing network within the Web3 marketing and growth community



Compensation & Benefits


- Base retainer: $130,000 – $178,000/year equivalent (structured as monthly retainer across client base, based on number of active clients and scope)

- Performance bonus tied to client retention, outcomes delivered, and client NPS
