Role Overview 

We are looking for a QA Lead & Manager who is an equal parts player and coach. This is not a people-management role with occasional reviews — it is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will personally test complex product flows, personally write and maintain automated tests, own QA strategy, and simultaneously develop a small team of 2–3 QA engineers. 

The right person for this role thrives in the details, is fluent in both manual and automation disciplines, and has the judgment to know when to go deep on exploratory testing versus when to invest in automation coverage. Given that Loop8’s products handle biometric authentication and sensitive user privacy data, strong instincts around security-sensitive user journeys are essential — not a bonus. 

What You’ll Do 

• Hands-On Testing & Automation 

• Personally execute exploratory, functional, regression, integration, and release testing on critical workflows across mobile apps, desktop apps, browser extensions, and web experiences.

• Design, write, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites yourself — not just review others’ work.

• Own regression coverage strategy: determine what gets automated, what stays manual, and why.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with engineering.

• Reduce flaky tests, improve signal quality, and keep automation maintainable and genuinely useful.

• • Test security-sensitive flows including authentication, biometrics, session handling, and privacy-critical user journeys.

Team Leadership & Development 

Manage, mentor, and raise the technical bar of 2–3 QA engineers across manual and automation disciplines.

• Set clear ownership, accountability, and execution standards within the QA function.

• Create test plans, standards, and release readiness criteria the team operates against consistently.

• Support career growth and skill development for each team member.

• Help define hiring profiles and onboarding expectations as the team grows.

Strategy & Process 

• Define and continuously improve QA strategy, processes, and quality operating model across all products.

• Own defect triage quality, root-cause analysis, and prioritization through to resolution.

• Establish meaningful QA metrics: defect escape rate, regression stability, flaky test trends, release readiness, and recurring risk areas.

• Drive release confidence through stronger regression coverage, cleaner test documentation, and smarter automation investment.

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

• Partner with Product and Engineering to clarify requirements, improve testability, and surface quality risk early in the development cycle.

• Bring a strong, credible voice to release planning, scope discussions, and risk tradeoff conversations.

• Incorporate feedback from internal stakeholders and customers into QA planning.

• Help teams think proactively about privacy, security, usability, and reliability risk.

What We’re Looking For (Required )

• 6+ years in software QA with meaningful, sustained hands-on testing experience — not just oversight.

• 2+ years leading or managing QA engineers in a senior lead, manager, or equivalent capacity.

• Proven experience owning quality across multiple product surfaces: mobile apps, web applications, browser extensions, and/or desktop apps.

• Strong hands-on manual testing skills including exploratory testing, defect investigation, and risk-based test planning.

• Strong hands-on automation skills: you have personally built or significantly maintained automation frameworks, not just reviewed them. Familiarity with tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Appium, Selenium, or equivalent.

• Working proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language used in test automation (JavaScript, Python, Java, or similar).

• Hands-on experience testing authentication, security-sensitive, or privacy-critical user flows —this is core to what Loop8 ships.

• Experience with API testing and debugging tools such as Postman or equivalent.

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with distributed teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively across time zones with limited synchronous overlap.

Some overlap with US Pacific Time required — availability through 10:00 AM PT on weekdays.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with browser extension testing specifically.

• Experience with iOS and Android mobile app testing.

• Experience with macOS and Windows desktop app testing.

• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or Jenkins.

• Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter or k6.

• Experience with TestRail or similar test management platforms.

• Familiarity with encryption, biometric, or passwordless authentication testing practices.
