Senior Scala Developer (Contract)

Duration: 3 Months (Initial)

Location: Fully Remote (UK-Based)

Security Clearance: SC Eligible Required

Engagement Type: Inside IR35


Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Scala Developer to join a high-profile public sector project. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful, large-scale government systems in a fully remote capacity. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a passion for clean code, and prior experience working within UK Government environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Scala
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following TDD principles
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, DevOps, and product stakeholders
  • Contribute to system design and architectural decisions
  • Ensure code quality through peer reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration
  • Work within Agile delivery teams to meet project milestones


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience with Scala
  • Proven experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Previous experience working on UK Government projects
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs
  • Experience with modern development tools and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices


Desirable Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Knowledge of containerisation tools such as Docker/Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with reactive programming frameworks (e.g., Akka, Play)
  • Experience working in secure or regulated environments


Additional Information

  • Candidates must be SC Clearance eligible (or already hold active clearance)
