Senior Network Engineer — IT/OT Infrastructure

THE ROLE


You'll be the senior technical authority for network infrastructure at Indiana Harbor Works — our integrated steelmaking facility in East Chicago, Indiana. Routing and switching, wireless, firewalls, WAN, and the segmentation boundary between enterprise IT and plant-floor OT. Hands-on senior IC role with real architectural ownership. You report to the Senior Manager, IT Network Security and Services.


This is onsite at the plant. Plant presence is the job.


WHAT YOU'LL DO


• Own the Indiana Harbor network — LAN, WAN, wireless, firewalls, IT/OT DMZ.

• Lead network infrastructure projects: WAN consolidation, carrier transport modernization, lifecycle upgrades.

• Drive firewall policy, ACL, and segmentation design with Cybersecurity.

• Mature network monitoring and SIEM integration from reactive to proactive.

• Develop SOWs, lead vendor coordination, evaluate SD-WAN, SASE, zero trust, and automation.

• Mentor junior engineers and guide cross-functional IT and OT staff.


REQUIRED


• 5+ years in enterprise or industrial network engineering.

• Deep LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLAN, network segmentation expertise.

• Advanced Cisco routing, switching, and wireless experience.

• Firewall policy and next-generation firewall experience.

• Network monitoring platforms (NNMi, PRTG, Splunk, or SolarWinds) integrated with SIEM.

• CCNA certification.

• Bachelor's in Networking, IT, CS, or equivalent experience.


PREFERRED


• CCNP certification.

• OT/IT convergence in manufacturing, utilities, or energy. Purdue Model, ISA/IEC 62443.

• Next-gen firewalls, network access control, SD-WAN.

• Python, Ansible.

ENVIRONMENT


Indiana Harbor is a 24/7 integrated steelmaking facility. This role spends time in both office and plant environments and requires adherence to plant safety protocols and assigned PPE — safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed metatarsal footwear, long-sleeve shirts, and where applicable, flame-retardant / arc-rated clothing and gas monitoring. Cliffs provides PPE and

training.
