Tokyo Academics is the passion project of a constellation of teachers, researchers, and academics from around the world. Since 2012, we’ve evolved from a few university friends to a growing number of part-time and full-time individuals located in Tokyo, as well as working remotely. We are an organization of experts deeply passionate about helping students meet their potential and capture the opportunities of the future.


At Tokyo Academics, marketing is about supporting the student academic journeys and meeting the goals of all TA’s service lines. The ideal candidate has experience in developing and executing marketing strategies while managing and inspiring their team. The Marketing Manager should be proficient with day-to-day marketing activities, long-term strategizing, and adapting under tight deadlines to meet the company’s changing needs. Typically, this person will be working at the Tokyo Academics office in Nishiazabu, during our regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 10 AM – 7 PM Japan Standard Time). The Marketing Manager may need to make off-site visits to schools, event venues, vendors, and partners.


Objectives of this role:

  • Work with all service lines to meet their goals and target KPIs on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis
  • Establish positioning, identify target audiences, and develop marketing strategies with specific objectives across different channels and segments
  • Lead the execution of marketing programs from start to finish, leveraging internal support and driving collaboration across all divisions
  • Analyze customer insights, consumer trends, market analysis, and marketing best practices to build successful strategies
  • Create, maintain, and conduct analytics reporting across multiple platforms and extract key insights for future campaign development and go-to market strategies, complete with formal proposals and recommendations on tactics


What you will work on:

  • Managing a small marketing team’s output and performance
  • Identify effectiveness and impact of current marketing initiatives with tracking and analysis, and optimize accordingly
  • Conceptualize and execute on multichannel campaigns across the prospect and customer lifecycle, ensuring the alignment of communications and messaging in all channels
  • Monitor, report, and pivot based on the performance of multiple metrics: SEO, Google ads, conversion, retention, campaigns, and more
  • Gather customer and market insights to inform outreach strategies, increase customer conversions, and generate more qualified leads
  • Present ideas and final deliverables to internal and external teams, and communicate with senior leaders about marketing programs, strategies, and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations, partners, and media to increase awareness of TA
  • Establish and maintain QA processes for all public facing content with company reputation and brand strategy in mind
  • Develop creative briefs and guide creative direction to meet objectives for all advertising and public facing communications, including print, digital and video assets
  • Managing digital advertising spend
  • Manage content and updates for customer and internal touch points, establish budget guidelines, spearhead events, document business processes, and provide sales support


Our ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Fluent English proficiency
  • Japanese proficiency (would be an advantage)
  • At least 5 years of marketing experience, 2 years in a management capacity
  • Proven success in developing marketing teams, strategies, campaigns and plans
  • Strong relationship management with external partners and media
  • Strong team and project management skills
  • Data and industry-driven decision-making skills
  • Metrics-driven marketing mind with eye for creativity
  • Can leverage marketing automation and CRM tools
  • Proficiency with online marketing and social media strategy
  • Understanding of the journey into top US universities
