THE ROLE

At DSST, we believe schools thrive when they are deeply connected to their communities. The Community Engagement & Recruitment Manager (CERM) leads this work on campus—serving both the middle and high school—to drive student recruitment, foster authentic family and community partnerships, and support grassroots advocacy.

The CERM is a highly independent, bilingual (Spanish preferred) strategic partner to the School Director and a key relationship-builder both internally and externally. This role requires someone who can own complex systems, influence others without authority, and lead with a strong service orientation.

You’ll work closely with school leaders, Home Office teams, and families to drive outcomes across recruitment, enrollment, family engagement, and community advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Enrollment

  • Manage campus recruitment and enrollment strategy to meet yearly community demand goals.
  • Use data to track leads, forecast trends, and adjust plans to meet targets.
  • Organize school tours, open houses, and engagement events for prospective families.
  • Train and mobilize staff to support high-impact recruitment activities.

Community & Family Engagement

  • Develop a school-wide vision for authentic, two-way family partnerships.
  • Lead communication strategies using tools like Bloomz, social media, and websites.
  • Plan and execute events that deepen community ties and support family belonging.
  • Build relationships with local organizations, businesses, and leaders to connect the school to its broader community.

Advocacy & Civic Engagement

  • Support grassroots advocacy and parent leadership aligned to local education priorities.
  • Organize civic engagement opportunities such as voter registration, candidate forums, and elected official visits.
  • Represent DSST at local events and help build coalitions to amplify community voice.

Data & Systems Leadership

  • Track, analyze, and act on engagement and recruitment data using tools like HubSpot, Quickbase, Polaris, and Excel.
  • Present updates and insights to school and Home Office stakeholders.
  • Develop tools, templates, and processes to ensure scalable, high-quality execution across all areas of work.

Undertake additional duties as needed, such as running a small group advisory class, after school tutoring, etc. Explore more potential duties here.

Requirements

  • Experienced: 3+ years of professional experience in program management, recruiting, sales, or community engagement (education/nonprofit experience preferred).
  • Bilingual Required: Spanish proficiency
  • Preferred: Prior experience in education, higher ed recruiting, or social services.

Who You Are

  • Strategic & Self-Directed: You drive outcomes with little direction, communicate upward effectively, and hold others accountable toward shared goals.
  • Relational & Culturally Responsive: You build deep relationships across lines of difference and create inclusive spaces for all voices.
  • Technically Proficient: You know or can learn systems like HubSpot, SchoolMint, Excel, and ReachWell.
  • Flexible & Community-Oriented: You’re available for events outside of regular hours and can travel between sites with reliable transportation.
