Job Description

Actuate Energy ("Actuate") is a flexible energy platform building the backbone of a flexible, electrified grid across Europe. Founded in 2026, Actuate acquires, builds and operates energy storage projects. An operator's mindset drives why and how we build our projects. In an asset class most developers still treat as a passive investment, this markets mentality is how Actuate underwrites and operates storage as a dispatchable, optimizable position in dynamic power markets. The company is backed by NGP, a leading private equity investor with nearly four decades of experience investing in dynamic energy markets.

At Actuate, we have made a structural bet on AI: every person at Actuate orchestrates AI agents, connected into our data and systems through MCP servers and bespoke integrations. This role sits at the centre of our tech and AI infrastructure as we build it out.

Our view is straightforward: the companies that take an AI-first approach, orchestrating teams of agentic resources, will out-perform those that treat AI like a tool to call on. This requires building our business with AI in mind from the very beginning, by hiring and developing our people to maximise their impact through AI.

Role

We are hiring a Manager, Data & Analytics to develop the company's analytical infrastructure end-to-end.

The mandate spans complex financial modeling across our investment universe; IC-grade analytics that directly underwrite capital allocation; and the systematic replacement of legacy workflows with bespoke software built with modern coding and AI tooling.

This is not a traditional analyst seat. The role sits at the intersection of energy markets analytics, investment analysis, quantitative modelling, software architecture and AI deployment. It is a crucial seat within the small team we are building: the group responsible for the platforms, connectors and infrastructure across LLMs, data, knowledge and workflows, as well as training and enablement across the company. The person in this seat will help define how Actuate analyses, decides and learns.

Responsibilities

Financial modelling and investment analytics

  • Structure, build and maintain complex project-, portfolio- and corporate-level financial models for grid-scale BESS.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the modelling stack: refining methodology, tightening assumptions, integrating new data sources and codifying lessons from live deals into reusable model architecture.
  • Prepare advanced analytics and summary materials for the Investment Committee.
  • Translate ambiguous strategic questions into quantifiable analytical frameworks, combining quantitative rigour with a qualitative layer.

Quantitative power market modelling

  • Lead quantitative analysis of third-party commodity price and revenue forecasts.
  • Manage Monte Carlo commodity price simulations with outputs rolling up to project and portfolio level.

Software development and system replacement

  • Migrate existing Excel-based financial models and tools into app-based solutions using Python and a modern web stack.
  • Architect a fully integrated platform comprising: (i) a cloud-based modelling tool generating custom power market scenarios; (ii) stochastic gross margin curves for BESS; (iii) Monte Carlo project and portfolio simulations; and (iv) corporate-level cash flow and tax optimisation engines.
  • Build dynamic, interactive data visualisations across the company's apps and data.
  • Build ESG and corporate reporting tools that serve both internal decision-making and external stakeholder requirements.

AI-native workflows and company-wide enablement

  • Design, write and continuously improve AI agents, commands, skills, multi-agent systems and structured workflows, building on the company's existing infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain the company's MCP servers and connector architecture, ensuring AI agents have access to our data, knowledge bases and tooling.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks for AI-driven workflows so that quality, accuracy and reliability can be measured rather than assumed.
  • Stay ahead of an evolving AI ecosystem, guiding the company in its adoption of breakout technology, expanding into company-wide capability.
  • Teach and enable the rest of the team (across investment, operations and leadership) to use the company's AI toolset to enhance their daily workflows. Build tools that meet people where they are, raise the floor on individual capability and make AI fluency a default rather than a specialism.

Knowledge infrastructure and engineering hygiene

  • Build, manage and improve Actuate's databases and knowledge environments.
  • Apply GitHub and Git for version control, code review and structured engineering workflow across the company.

Required experience

  • 10+ years experience in private equity or infrastructure investing or analysis roles.
  • Expertise in the European power and energy storage markets.
  • Deep expertise in project finance modelling for renewables and BESS, including debt structuring and debt sculpting. Confidence presenting and defending analytics at IC level.
  • Strong background in stochastic and deterministic analysis.
  • Proficiency of coding in Python and modern front-end frameworks and languages.
  • Demonstrated use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, VS Code or equivalent), examples of implemented AI processes.
  • Experience with GitHub and Git.

Details

  • Reports to: CEO
  • Location: Fully remote
  • Compensation: Competitive with top-tier private equity-backed portfolio companies, including base, performance bonus and long-term upside participation in the performance of the platform.
