- Act as the design authority across primary systems, secondary systems, and distribution design, setting standards and governance frameworks.
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams, driving performance, capability, and safety culture.
- Lead and deliver the Secondary Systems and Network Design business plan.

- Lead conceptual and detailed design of protection, control, and secondary systems to support project development and delivery.
- Oversee development of engineering work packs and ensure consistent application of design templates and standards.
- Develop system architectures aligned to network strategy and future requirements.
- Provide and maintain design tools, templates, and engineering frameworks to support delivery teams.
- Oversee equipment sourcing, supply contracts, and inventory management.
- Manage lifecycle performance of hardware, software, firmware, and protection systems, including failure response.
- Lead delivery of protection and automation training.
- Oversee delivery of site-specific designs and technical solutions.
- Provide ongoing operational support, including complex technical enquiries and network connection requests.
- Lead system emergency support and response.
- Maintain and govern design systems, manuals, standards, and processes.
- Lead fault and emergency investigations, including reporting and implementation of corrective actions.

- Maintain accountability for the operation, condition monitoring, and access authority of the secondary systems network.
- Manage capital and operational budgets, forecasting, and contracts.
- Partner with Asset Management to support asset strategy and long-term planning.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, safety performance, and operational resilience.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with extensive operational experience, strong asset management aligned to ISO 55001, and (desirable) postgraduate qualifications such as MBA, Management, Engineering Management, Power Systems, or Asset Management.
- Deep technical expertise in electricity networks, including secondary systems (protection, SCADA, telecommunications, IEC 61850, cyber security) and familiarity with zone substation primary assets, plus strong understanding of NER and NEM and AEMO requirements.
- Experience in a distribution or transmission utility (or closely related industry) with demonstrated capability leading design and secondary systems functions, ensuring technical outcomes and delivery performance.
- Proven leadership of large engineering and technical teams, with strong people leadership experience in complex operational environments.
- Strong commercial, financial, and strategic capability, including managing $20M+ programs and applying a forward-looking mindset aligned to enterprise risk and industry trends.
