Senior Java Engineer (Public Sector Programme)
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000
Location: UK-Wide
Working Pattern: Fully remote with one office visit per month (travel expenses covered)
Interview Process: Single-stage interview (2 hours via Microsoft Teams)

The Role:
As a Senior Java Engineer, you will take ownership of delivering robust, scalable services across a range of projects spanning cloud-native platforms and traditional infrastructure.
You’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary Agile team, collaborating closely with analysts, architects, testers, and DevOps engineers to design, build, deploy, and support high-quality software solutions.
This is a hands-on engineering role with expectations to lead by example, contribute to technical direction, and support the growth of more junior engineers.

- Deliver user stories within Agile, cross-functional teams
- Design, build, and maintain scalable services using Java and Spring Boot
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
- Apply TDD, BDD, and automated testing practices
- Participate across the full software delivery lifecycle (build, test, deploy, support, monitor)
- Work within DevSecOps practices using modern CI/CD tooling
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team capability and wellbeing
- Contribute to engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong commercial experience in Java development
- Extensive experience with Spring Boot
- Building RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
- Experience with TDD, unit testing, and automated integration testing
- Knowledge of loosely coupled synchronous and asynchronous systems
- Understanding of Spring frameworks (JPA, AOP, Transactions)
- Experience working with SQL databases (NoSQL desirable)
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes (desirable)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and application security principles
- Strong Agile experience and collaborative working style
