The Role

We are looking for Database Administrator (DBA) to take full ownership of the client's database landscape spanning Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and cloud-hosted database services on AWS RDS and Azure SQL. You will be responsible for day-to-day administration, performance tuning, backup management, and proactive maintenance to ensure database reliability, security, and availability.

Please note: This position requires full-time presence in AU time 9:00am – 5:00 pm AEST (5 days per week) fully remote

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Maintenance

• Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL database environments.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks including index rebuilding, statistics updates, integrity checks, and log management.
• Manage database schemas, stored procedures, views, triggers, and user permissions.
• Plan and execute database patching, upgrades, and version migrations with minimal disruption

Performance & Optimisation

• Proactively monitor database performance using available toolsets and address bottlenecks, slow queries, and resource contention.

• Analyse execution plans and optimize queries, indexes, and schema design for throughput and latency improvements.
• Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to support business growth requirements.

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity

• Design, implement, and validate database backup strategies aligned with client RPO and RTO requirements.
• Perform and document regular recovery drills to verify backup integrity and restore procedures.
• Maintain and update disaster recovery documentation in line with client business continuity plans.

Cloud Database Management 

• Administer and optimize cloud-hosted databases on AWS RDS and Azure SQL, including configuration, scaling, and cost management. 
• Manage connectivity, replication, and failover configurations for cloud database instances. 
• Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams on hybrid database architectures. 

Security & Compliance 

• Enforce database access controls, role-based permissions, and least-privilege principles. 
• Monitor and respond to security events, audit logs, and compliance requirements relevant to the client environment. 
• Assist in preparing evidence and documentation for audits (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2). 

Collaboration & Reporting 

• Liaise with the client's application and development teams to support database-related requirements for projects and releases. 
• Provide regular health reports, incident summaries, and maintenance logs to both the client and Dimiyatech delivery management. 
• Participate in changing management processes and adhere to the client's ITIL-aligned service desk workflows. 

Skills & Experience

• 3–6 years of hands-on DBA experience in a professional IT or managed services environment. 
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or later), including T-SQL, SSMS, SQL Agent, and Always on Availability Groups. 
• Strong working knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL — installation, configuration, replication, and query optimization. 
• Practical experience managing cloud databases on AWS RDS and/or Azure SQL, including managed instance configurations. 
• Solid understanding of backup and recovery strategies, RPO/RTO frameworks, and disaster recovery best practices. 
• Experience with performance monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., SolarWinds DPA, Datadog, Query Store, pg_stat_statements). 
• Ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for automation. 
• Familiarity with ITIL service management principles and working within ticketing systems (e.g., ManageEngine, ServiceNow). 

Preferred Skills & Certifications 

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) or equivalent. 
• AWS Certified Database – Specialty or relevant RDS experience certification. 
• Experience with database automation and scripting using PowerShell or Bash. 
• Exposure to high-availability solutions including clustering, mirroring, replication, and log shipping. 
• Understanding of ETL processes and integration with BI/reporting platforms. 
• Prior experience working in a client-embedded or outsourced MSP model
